HISTORY

The $600,000 Queensland Oaks is Group 1 Classic for three-year-old over 2200m at Eagle Farm racecourse.

The Queensland Oaks was first run on Wednesday December 26th 1951. It was ran in the Spring until 1957 when moved to its now traditional Winter carnival timeslot.

Some of Australia’s Champions of the Turf have won the Queensland Oaks including Winx (2015), Surround (1977), Slight Chance (1993), Denise’s Joy (1976).

Favourites have dominated in recent years with three favourites winning from the last five runnings Winx (2015), Egg Tart (2017), Youngstar (2018).

There has been two winners at 50/1 Mon Mekki (2002) and Blue Roc (1966).

BEST BET

Has made a quick progression through the ranks winning a mid-week Benchmark 72 three back before taking out a Group 3 race next start. Looked a touch unlucky not to finish closer to Hungry Heart in the Australian Oaks and with natural progression she will be right in the mix.

BEST VALUE

The Roses is traditionally the best lead up race to the Queensland Oaks and this filly raced up on the speed and was dominant final stages. May have to do some work from wide gate but her jockey is riding better than ever and he is sure to find an early position for her. She should be prominent for a long way.
