Matty Stewart is back alongside Adam McGrath and Chris Roots as the Spring Carnival reaches another huge weekend, with Golden Rose Day at Rosehill and the Group 1 Manikato Stakes headlining a packed slate of racing across Sydney and Melbourne. With several of the country’s most exciting three-year-olds and sprinters set to take centre stage, Saturday shapes as one of the most important form reference meetings of the spring.
The boys dive straight into the Group 1 Golden Rose, where highly-rated colt Guest House headlines a deep field of emerging three-year-old talent. Trained by Mick Price & Michael Kent Jr, Guest House has earned favouritism and now looks to cement himself as one of the stars of his generation. The boys assess his chances against key rivals including Warwoven, St Gotthard, Tron Bolt and a powerful contingent from the Chris Waller stable in one of the most important three-year-old races of the season.
Attention then turns to the Group 1 Manikato Stakes, where an outstanding sprint field has assembled for a clash featuring some of Australia’s elite speedsters. Beiwacht drops back to 1200 metres after his Memsie Stakes success, while proven Group 1 performers Giga Kick, Jimmysstar, Rothfire and defending champion Charm Stone add plenty of depth. The boys debate whether Beiwacht can continue his remarkable rise or if one of the established sprint stars can reclaim the spotlight.
Beyond the two Group 1 features, Adam, Chris and Matty work through the key support races from both Rosehill and Caulfield, highlighting the horses they believe are worth following throughout the remainder of the carnival and identifying runners capable of making their mark in bigger races later this spring.
