NFL Super Bowl LX Preview

The 2025/2026 NFL season comes to an end with Super Bowl LX as the New England Patriots take on the Seattle Seahawks.

Super Bowl LX is finally here, and it features two surprise contenders.

The Seattle Seahawks opened the NFL season as $51 outsiders to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy, but on the back of becoming the most well-rounded team in the league, they’re now $1.41 favourites to lift it.

Meanwhile, the New England Patriots didn’t even rate a mention in the season preview as Super Bowl contenders for this to be the first match up since 1981 to feature two teams at $50+ to win it before Week 1. Drake Maye’s expected improvement raised expectations, but not to the level they would go 9-0 on the road all the way to Gillette Stadium.

Now, the two teams are preparing to go head to head in one of the biggest events in world sport.

Super Bowl LX Preview

It’s going to be mentioned plenty throughout the week, but this is a rematch of Super Bowl XLIX – an all time classic. Malcolm Butler’s goal-line interception is a moment in NFL history that will never be forgotten.

However, the Patriots are $2.85 outsiders to see such heroics in this one. It will more than likely come on the back of Drake Maye, too.

A surprise finalist for the Most Valuable Player award, Maye led the NFL in completion rate (72%) and yards per attempt (8.9) throughout the regular season. His ability to make big plays at the right time is among the best in the league, and it’s been enough for the young quarterback to prove people wrong all season. He’s at $2.29 to keep doing it by throwing over 1.5 touchdowns with his passing line set at 220.5 yards for Super Bowl LX.

New England’s regular season schedule deserved scrutiny. Still, Maye and the Patriots have continued the trend in the playoffs.

New England presents as an appealing +4.5 underdog. Blindly betting underdogs in the Super Bowl since 2024 has produced 15 covers in 22 games. More specifically for Mike Vrabel, he’s 21-14 against the spread as an underdog of 3+ points. He’s 2-0 straight up as a underdog of 3+ points this season.

But the Super Bowl and this Seahawks team is a different. beast.

Mike Macdonald thrives against young quarterbacks. He uses deceptive schemes and a high rate of nickel packages. They will take away the easy check-down option and force Maye to look elsewhere.

Seattle finished the NFL regular season with the best scoring defence and ranked first in EPA per play and total yards allowed. They cause havoc without selling out to rank 4th in pressure rate (38.9%) despite rarely blitzing. Against the run, Seattle ranked first in defensive rush DVOA and left opponents with just a 34% success rate for -0.15 EPA per play.

The Seahawks defence has been the primary engine driving them to Super Bowl LX in every facet of the game.

Meanwhile, Sam Darnold has enjoyed a career renaissance and threw for 364 yards and three touchdowns against the LA Rams last week.

“In making Super Bowl LX, Darnold has completed one of the great career arcs in NFL history. It should rewrite expectations for young quarterbacks coming into the league (it won’t) and provide proof that a young player failing in the most high-pressure position in sports doesn’t mean they won’t develop into a productive player.” – Conference Championship Review

However, his change in reputation hasn’t come without reminders of the old Darnold. He did lead the NFL in giveaways with 20 during the regular season and does have the odd clanger in him. He’s at $1.78 to throw a pick at some point in this one.

Jaxson Smith-Njigba will be a primary target for Darnold. He couldn’t be contained in the Conference Championship. It seemed as though he was open on every route. With his line set at 93.5 yards, he’s likely to go Over in any Seahawks win.

Despite so much focus being on the quarterbacks and what they can do with the ball, the relatively low 45.5 points total suggests more of a defensive influence. Opportunities are likely to be few and far between, and with either team to win by 7 or less at $1.81, Super Bowl LX is expected to come down to the wire.

Super Bowl LX Best Bets

The Super Bowl is a prop punters dream with more than ever to pick from. However, we’re keeping it simple in the receiving market.

Kenneth Walker III impressed last week in becoming the main man in the Seahawks run game. The play for him this week is in the air.

He offers check-down safety value for Darnold, who will surely have the 20 turnovers on his mind. As the Patriots look to force those turnovers through pressure, expect Darnold to keep it relatively safe when he can by finding Walker III for the easy yards and Over 20.5 for the game.

The Seahawks play with an elite defence, have an advantage in coaching experience against young quarterbacks and are riding a wave of momentum in to Super Bowl LX.

Their defensive prowess is well documented now already, but Macdonald’s performance against younger quarterbacks in the NFL demands attention. In his last ten games against quarterback’s under 25 years old, his units are 9-1 straight up on the back of 12 interceptions and 30 sacks. He knows how to put inexperienced players into tough situations and has the defensive unit to make them pay for any mistakes.

Maye, while brilliant for the large majority of the NFL season, has somewhat struggled in the playoffs. He has 15 sacks and five turnovers to his name in his first two postseason games. Expect Macdonald and the Seahawks to add to that on the way to a first Super Bowl win since 2013.
