The daily NBA preview takes it to the rim with tips for the slumping Portland Trail Blazers’ home assignment against the in-form Indiana Pacers.
13:00 (AEDT), Mon 27th Jan @ Moda Center, Portland
History: Played 90: Trail Blazers 56 V Pacers 34
Last meeting: March 18, 2019: Trail Blazers 106 d Pacers 98 at Moda Center
Final Thoughts: The Portland Trail Blazers are struggling to string together wins despite Damian Lillard’s heroics. Meanwhile, the Indiana Pacers are in hot form as they come to the end of a road-heavy section of their schedule.
The 19-27 Blazers are languishing in 11th in the Western Conference. They have won just five of their last 16 games, including only one of their last four.
Damian Lillard piled on 61 points in an overtime win over the Warriors last week. But ‘Dame’s’ 47-point contribution was not enough to prevent a 133-125 loss to the Mavericks in their last outing.
The 29-16 Pacers are fifth in the East after winning seven of their last eight. Impressively, six of those matches were on the road.
Indiana’s last four matches featured a win Denver, a loss in Utah and 11-plus victories at Phoenix and Golden State. TJ Warren’s breakout season continues to gather steam, racking up 58 points in the Pacers’ last two games.
All-Star Victor Oladipo is scheduled to return from a year-long layoff in the Pacers’ next game, against the Bulls.
Pacers out to end Portland drought
The Blazers have dominated this rivalry in recent years, winning nine of their last 10 against the Pacers. They won all four clashes over the past two seasons by margins of eight or more
Portland have also won 10 straight between the teams at Moda Center. Indiana’s last victory at the venue was way back in 2007.
The Blazers are 10-11 at home this season, however, winning only two of their last eight at Moda Center. The Pacers are a modest 12-11 on the road but have won six of their last seven away. Portland have proved punter poison against the line this season, going an NBA-worst 16-28-2 ATS. Indiana boast one of the best ATS records in the league at 26-19-1.
The latter stat-lines suggest the Pacers are set to extinguish their Oregon hoodoo in this pick ’em game.
