History: Played 122: Mavericks 71 V Timberwolves 51
Last meeting: April 3, 2019: Timberwolves 110 d Mavericks 108 at American Airlines Center
Final Thoughts: Fourth hosts seventh in an intriguing NBA Western Conference showdown in Dallas.
The 14-6 Dallas Mavericks have won eight of their last nine. They responded to a 114-99 reality check from the Clippers by making a cleansweep of their road trip, downing the Suns (120-113), Lakers (114-100) and Pelicans (118-97) to solidify their status as a genuine contender.
Hot MVP tips Luka Doncic has been at the forefront. Averaging 30.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and 9.4 assists, the 20-year-old is matching and breaking long-standing records on a weekly basis.
The 10-9 Minnesota Timberwolves are keeping themselves in the playoffs frame despite struggling for consistency. Since winning their opening three games, they have not won or lost more than two in a row.
The T-Wolves put away the Hawks (125-113) and Spurs (113-101) on the road but came off three days’ rest with a 115-107 home loss to the Grizzlies. Karl-Anthony Towns, who is averaging 25.9 points, 12.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists, and Andrew Wiggins (24.8 pts, 5.4 reb, 3.5 ast) are driving their campaign.
Timberwolves handy on the road
The Timberwolves have won six of their last eight against the Mavericks, including the last three in Dallas. Each of the teams’ last five encounters were decided by five points or less.
Last season Karl Anthony Towns (28 pts, 13 reb, 3 ast, 3 blk) led Minnesota to a 110-108 win over Luka Doncic (27 pts, 12 reb, 6 ast) and Dallas at American Airlines Center.
The Mavericks are only 6-4 at home so far; the Timberwolves are an outstanding 7-2 on the road. The Mavs are also on a back-to-back, while the T-Wolves have had two days’ rest.
It’s a banana skin game for Dallas, but Doncic should lead them home in a tight one.
