NBA Tips – Golden State Warriors @ Denver Nuggets

14:00 (AEDT), Fri 11th Mar @ Ball Arena, Denver

History: Played 190: Nuggets 102 V Warriors 88

Last meeting: March 7, 2022: Nuggets 131 d Warriors 124 at Ball Arena

Final Thoughts: Denver Nuggets and Golden State Warriors complete their regular-season series as the jostling for Western Conference positions starts getting intense.

The Nuggets have won all three clashes between the heavyweights this season. They won 89-86 in December and 117-116 in February – both in San Francisco – before snaring a 131-124 victory on Monday (AEDT).

Nikola Jokic was an all-round beast, as per usual, earlier this week with 32 points, 15 rebounds and 13 assists. Monte Morris (18 pts, 5 reb, 7 ast) also made a handy contribution for Denver. With Golden State’s back-court duo Steph Curry and Klay Thompson sidelined, Jordan Poole and Moses Moody combined for 62 points.

The 39-26 Nuggets are sixth in the West, 2.5 wins above the play-in tournament zone and within a couple of wins of climbing into the top four. They have won 10 of their last 11, following up their defeat of the Warriors with a 106-100 success on the road against the Kings on Thursday (AEDT). Jokic (38 pts, 18 reb, 7 ast) was again in imperious touch. Will Barton, Bones Hyland and Jeff Green all missed the match.

The 44-22 Warriors have slipped to third in the West standings. But an under-strength side snapped a five-game losing streak with a 112-97 win over the Clippers just 24 hours after their loss in Denver. Jonathan Kuminga (21 pts, 6 reb, 6 ast) starred off the bench, while Thompson had 20 points and Curry 15. Andrew Wiggins (14 pts, 11 reb) led the Warriors’ front-court improvement.

The Nuggets are 20-11 at home this season (13-18 ATS), winning seven of their last eight at Ball Arena. The Warriors are 17-15 on the road (14-16-2 ATS) but have lost six of their last seven away.

The Nuggets are 5-6 on a back-to-back, but they have chalked up two wins on no days’ rest in the past fortnight – including this week’s defeat of the Warriors.

Golden State are $1.70 favourites to grab a crucial away win. The Warriors’ elite-level defence regrouped against the Clippers after conceding 122-plus in their previous four games, but their remains a huge question mark about their ability to shut down Jokic effectively.
