Final Thoughts: New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves complete their season series at Madison Square Garden.

The Knicks took out the teams’ Minneapolis-hosted clash last month, with Mitchell Robinson (14 pts, 18 reb) and Julius Randle (13 pts, 15 reb) leading the way in a 96-88 win. Malik Beasley (20 pts, 4 reb) was among the Timberwolves’ best on the night.

The 22-22 Knicks, 11th in the East, have been on a promising upswing in recent weeks, winning eight of their last 12. But they are on the second leg of a back-to-back after going down 97-87 at home to the Hornets. RJ Barrett, who has five 25+ point games in the Knicks’ last nine, and Julius Randle (averaging 19.1 pts, 10.1 reb and 5.0 ast) have been their driving force. But the Knicks are ranked 23rd in the league offensively.

Meanwhile, veteran guard Kemba Walker (knee) has missed the Knicks’ last nine games. Derrick Rose and Cam Reddish are also sidelined long-term, while big man Nerlens Noel is a day-to-day proposition.

The 21-22 Timberwolves sit eighth in the West. They are also moving in the right direction with five wins from their last seven games. After dropping consecutive games on the road to the Pelicans (128-125) and Grizzlies (116-108), the T-Wolves crushed a Curry-less Warriors line-up 119-99 at home.

Marquee big man Karl-Anthony Towns (26 pts, 11 reb) was typically dominant, while Jaylen Nowell put up 17 points and 4 assists off the bench. Nowell is in some doubt with an ankle sprain. D’Angelo Russell has averaged 18.2 points and 8.8 assists since returning from a five-game layoff a fortnight ago.

The Knicks are just 11-12 at home (10-13 against the start) despite winning five of their last six at home. The T-Wolves are 9-12 on the road (13-8 ATS), winning only three of their last nine away.

The Knicks are 3-1 on a back-to-back this season and are difficult to resist as a home underdog.
