NBA Tips – Chicago Bulls @ Dallas Mavericks

History: Played 81: Mavericks 41 V Bulls 40

Last meeting: November 10, 2021: Bulls 117 d Mavericks 107 at United Center

Final Thoughts: Eastern Conference leaders Chicago Bulls are searching for a 10th straight win as they head to Texas to face a Dallas Mavericks side on a five-game winning streak.

The 26-10 Bulls boast the third-best record in the NBA, taking advantage of a relatively soft section in their schedule to chalk up the franchise’s longest winning run in 11 years. But it hasn’t been an easy ride: four of the nine wins have come by five points or less.

DeMar DeRozan hit buzzer-beating winners in consecutive away games against the Pacers and Wizards, while they’ve put away the Magic (102-98) and Wizards again (130-122) at home in the past week. The Chicago offence has been firing despite the intermittent absence of the likes of Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso on health and safety protocols. Zach LaVine and DeRozan have been outstanding, both averaging over 26 points a game for the season.

The 21-18 Mavericks’ season-best streak includes three away wins and convincing, Luka Doncic-inspired home defeats of the Nuggets and Warriors. Doncic (ankle) sat out their most recent game – a 130-106 blowout of the Rockets – and is questionable for this clash.

The Mavs will be desperate for their linchpin to play – they are 6-9 without him this season, while Kristaps Porzingis (COVID protocols) is confirmed as out. Coach Jason Kid is also in the NBA’s health and safety protocols.

The Bulls made it four straight wins over the Mavericks with a 117-107 victory in Chicago two months ago. Ball (21 pts, 6 reb, 6 ast) hit seven three-pointers, while LaVine (23 pts) top-scored and big man Nikola Vucevic (18 pts, 10 reb, 4 ast) was strong. Porzingis (22 pts, 12 reb) and Doncic (20 pts, 8 reb, 10 ast) – who had a bad shooting night – worked hard for the Mavs.

The Bulls are a handy 12-6 on the road (10-8 against the start), winning six of their last eight. The Mavericks are 10-8 at home (8-10 ATS) but have won just four of their last 11 in Dallas.

Chicago’s league-leading three-point percentage, the form of LaVine and DeRozan, the absence of Porzingis and doubt over Doncic point to strong value in the Bulls as only slight underdogs.
