Final Thoughts: After a blowout Game 3 loss saw Golden State Warriors grasp the advantage in the Western Conference Semi-finals, Memphis Grizzlies are striving to square the series again before it heads back to Tennessee.
The Warriors took out the series opener in a 117-116 thriller, despite the ejection of Draymond Green. Jordan Poole (31 pts, 8 reb, 9 ast) was outstanding off the bench, Steph Curry’s 24 points including five three-pointers and Klay Thompson hit a clutch three in the latter stages. Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr combined for 67 points for the Grizzlies.
Memphis bounced back 106-101 in Game 2 as Morant exploded for 47 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 steals. Curry (27 pts) top-scored for Golden State. Dillon Brooks copped a one-game ban for a flagrant foul that potentially ended Gary Payton II’s season.
Warriors flex muscle, rub out Morant
The Warriors emphatically regained the ascendancy with a 142-112 thrashing of the Grizzlies in San Francisco in Game 3. Curry (30 pts, 6 ast), Thompson (21 pts, 9 reb, 4 ast) and Poole (27 pts) all starred, while frontcourt starters Andrew Wiggins and Jonathan Kuminga combined for 35 points. Morant (34 pts, 7 ast) tried hard but lacked support in the face of a swarming Golden State offence that shot 53.1 percent from three-point range.
Brooks, who played some key hands in the First Round series win over the Timberwolves, will return for Game 4. But they are likely to be without Morant, who suffered a knee injury in a controversial incident late in Game 3.
The Grizzlies are an incredible 21-5 without Morant this season, going on some impressive runs during his extended absences in December and March. But it’s a big ask on the road for them to knock over a Warriors side that can smell blood in the water. Expect the home side to pull away late here and go 3-1 up.
