Like it seems practically always, these midweek city maidens are strong. And this race is no exception. Two of them stand out and look the quinella. They are BENNO FIRST who was really good on debut. He was on the pace all way at the Sunny Coast and kept fighting to just lose. The other is KRUGER. He has placed twice in this grade from two runs this time up. He sits off pace and battles away. Should be fitter now and looms large. Interesting to note, Corey Bayliss rode him last start but his 3kg claim is going to offset Benno First this time. Might be a lead, but we think he’s chosen the wrong one!
Mapping a race is a skill. And we think, at good odds, we may have worked this one out precisely. IGNITE THE LIGHT is a two-time winner at this track and trip. His past couple of runs have been weak but he is the ONLY pace in this race and from this gate will jump and run. When he leads and is left alone in front, he is a tough bugger to run past. THE MECHANIC is the best horse in the field, but he’s 2nd up and will spot this bloke a healthy start as they turn. They look the quinella.
Tip: IGNITE THE LIGHT
This Greg Eurell-trained galloper LAKESIDE OVAL looks the play. In fact, he just looks to have a sign around his neck saying…’back me.’ He is 3rd up here after 2 strong runs, the latest when 2nd in this very grade over 1420m. He hit the line strongly that day suggesting this trip would suit him well. And he’s drawn perfectly. Will love this track too.
