I am at a loss as to why champion bush rider Greg Ryan has chosen to ride MATHEMATICS here. He won a barrier trial recently on the newcomer FARMER’S FRIEND. It was a strong trial and the horse led all the way, warding off challenges down the running and doing it with his head on his chest. Has the perfect draw here and Brooke Stower, who has the ride now, is extremely good. Ryan did ride Mathematics for Allan Denham last start when 6th and the horse did race greenly in the straight shying away from the whip and losing concentration. But that aside it was a meek effort compared to the trial winner. I hate going against Ryan but gee, I think he’s erred this time. Quinella them.

There has been 4 scratchings already leaving us with just 6 runners. Which should suit the speedy ROTATOR. She is having her first run with Lindsey Smith after her first 7 starts were with Chris Waller. This is no gimme of a maiden either with all of them having placed at this grade. It has some depth. But she has run really well while fresh in the past narrowly losing both times she has resumed. Everything is new here and her draw means she can find the front comfortably. Smith seems to be able to get horses from other trainers to turn on. Looks too swift.

This is a pretty handy BM 58 race but I’m going to back the least experienced runner. Her name is GIVE VAL A RING and she is trained by Mitchell Freedman. She receives a 2kg weight allowance here following her runaway mdn win last start. She looks to have a lot of talent. She improves every run and although this is her toughest test, she appears up to them.
