Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, looks at today’s meetings and singles out his top three horse racing tips from Grafton, Pakenham & Mackay. Good luck, punters!

As you would expect, a fair few emerging staying types here. The mare, BEYOND DESIRE, has been backed in from $2.15 to around $1.85 so she is expected to race boldly. But I like the dour staying-bred horse MONSUN SOLDIER. His past 3 runs have all been at the Gold Coast where it should be stronger racing. And on each occasion, he’s dropped to the tail and run on steadily, placing twice. He doesn’t mind it wet and this track supports those who can make ground. Looks an each-way bet all day. Quinella him with the mare too.

Here’s something I’ve never written before. About 3 months back I contacted the Racing Manager of Sun Bloodstock, owner of CONDOR HEROES. I wanted to buy him. He is a fallen star because he has bleeding problems so I wanted to purchase him, take the gamble he doesn’t bleed again, and send him to the NSW bush, to prepare for the Highway races etc. I was politely turned away with, “The horse is going well at the moment and we have faith he can fight back to his best form.” That annoyed me, but OK, roll forward to today. He looks, if all the above adds up to what I think it does, the one to beat here.

I’m on FRUGAL here. Mainly because he can carry weight and run time. But what counters that is he has struggled late in his races when stepped up to BM 69 grade, which is what he faces here. He is fast and last start brained them with 60kg in good time, time that would win this, but it was in much easier grade. It’s a conundrum. Drawn to show his ability here and the much lighter weight helps a lot.
