Ballina R2 – C2 Hcp 1400m

13:55 (Local Time)

This is an exercise in weights and measures. Leading trainer Matty Dunn had 3 runners engaged. They all raced each other last start as well when the trio all were resuming from spells. On that day, WILLIAM, who has been scratched today, finished in front of his stablemates PIRLO and HAYBURNER. Now they are both 2nd up and the trip is 200m longer. So who is suited the most? Well, Dunn has opted for his main stable rider Robbie Fradd to ride Hayburner who does meet Pirlo better at the weights. But he finished behind him last start. I’m inclined to go with stable knowledge so I suspect Hayburner turns the tables this time. And in the process, beats the rest of the field too!

If the money comes for GIOTTINO it may pay to follow it. But on recent form THERE YOU ARE looks the best play. He goes best when ridden to the lead and should be able to cross here and find the front early. Three runs this time up, 2 x 2nd placings when ridden hard early. Only other start was last at Flemington when ridden well back all the way. Giottino hasn’t raced for a year but was 5th at The Curragh in Ireland on debut in a field of 25. Watch market moves closely. Quinella this pair.

This race will tell us a lot about this young fellow CHARGEMENT. He has been taken along slowly but has shown way above average ability thus far. On debut over a year ago, he was runner-up in the prestigious bush 2YO race the Romantic Dream. And, at his 3rd race start, when resuming from a long spell last start at Tamworth, he sat just behind a hot tempo, and drew clear final stages to win. Steps up a fair way in class here with at least 3 other highly promising types opposed to him, but does seem to have tactical speed and fight. Perhaps FROZEN IN TIME can run 2nd.
