I know THE EXCHEQUER is a gunna horse. That means, as I’ve mentioned before, a horse that always looks like he/she is gunna win next start. The Exchequer has run a place in this grade at 6 of his past 8 starts. But last start was different. Not so much in describing it as yes, he was 2nd and it was a good run on paper, but how it was done. He was part of a tremendous 2-horse speed battle at just his 2nd start this time up, yet he kept whacking away to run 2nd. The other horse folded right up. Super fit now, on his home track, I think he can brain them today.
Tip: THE EXCHEQUER
This is division 2 of the above race. And interestingly, I’ve found one at big odds who should run boldly. It is ALASKAN AURA who was on speed with The Exchequer. He weakened to finish 5th. It was his 2nd run from a spell, after stepping up from 1100m and he also is on his home track here. Should be able to box seat from here and being fitter I expect him to be in the finish.
Tip: ALASKAN AURA
I’m a fan, as a punter, of pure speed and if you can carry it through a race, it matters little the grade. XIAOLI’S YING, for instance, won his maiden over this trip leading all the way. He ran time that day at Quirindi and won comfortably running home his last 600m in 32.14sec. Which is super fast. Next start he sat off the speed and narrowly won his Cl 1 race also this trip. Today, up again in grade, I think he pings from this inside draw, finds the paint and controls the speed all over again. He carries less weight than his previous two wins and this track is kind to front-runners.
