EMERALD FORTUNE is in career-best form and is the best horse, but I just don’t think he can win with 63kg. Particularly because this locally trained mare POLYXENA might be more than handy. Her form is consistent and her one run this time up was full of merit, finishing 3rd after storming up to the lead with 200m to travel. That was at Grafton in a Showcase Cl 2. This is higher grade but is fitter and drops a long way in weight.
This looks like a race in two for mine. The toppie DERBY STAR is ready to win and drawn next to him in the barriers is the emerging 3YO filly, BOOMALONG. She made up many lengths this grade last start to run 2nd with an apprentice on board. Senior rider this time, is having 3rd race start, so is fitter and more experienced and I think she and Derby Star rattle home together with Boomalong getting the nod on the wire. Great quinella bet.
Not sure just yet how smart this filly GAMAY is, I guess we’ll get a glimpse here. She is first up from a spell and having just her 2nd start in a race. On debut, she made good ground late without threatening when 6th this company. Extra 200m this time, a lot more maturity and that race experience should have her a much better proposition this time. Should rush home late and is trained at this track.
