1. Cepheus (19)

echo J: N Rawiller T: M Dunn

What a courageous horse and he has been in superb form for some time now. However, he faces a tough task from out here. He may have to lump his big weight while 3-wide throughout and you just can’t do that at the mile here. Saying all that, if Nash finds a spot with cover his class will play a role late.

2. Detonator Jack (15)

echo J: J Collett T: C Maher & D Eustace

Is racing at the peak of his powers and looks hard to hold out. His form in these $1m+ races has been first rate culminating with a devastating turn of foot to win the $1m Gong this trip last start. Significant to note, the track was slow that day and he loves it damp. May get that here too. Big show.

3. King Magnus (20)

echo J: T Stockdale T: R Griffiths & M Kock

Very tough and more than capable as he showed last week winning on soft ground at Gr 3 level in Vic. This is harder but he’s won at this trip. The gate, however, looks hard to overcome.

4. Vilana (6)

echo J: A Hyeronimus T: J Cummings

Getting the mile at this level is his biggest concern. Returned to form last start over 1400m in Gr 3 when coming home hard late to miss by less than a length behind King Magnus. Gives the impression this journey will suit and could sneak a place ass he has drawn to receive a great run.

Drawn badly here. Did sit 3-wide the last 800m of the 1600m Gong on a wet track and was doing best work late when 4th to Detonator Jack. Meets that horse 2.5kg better but was beaten a fair way. Place.

echo J: T Clark T: C Waller

It will be intersting to see where he gets in the run. I suspect he drops right out to be near the rear. Took some time to wind up in the $1m Gong at Kembla this trip in the mud last start but did run on late for 3rd. This is a length harder but a drier track should suit a lot more. I can see him absolutely storming home if allowed to settle last early.

Will be a surprise if he wins but saying that if the rain comes he becomes a major chance. Will get back and run on. Coming back from 2000m Rosehill Cup last start when 5th.

Terrific miler on his day and looks like he might be back to his best. Came home hard late last week when beaten less than a length by the leader and winner Phearson in the Gr 3 Festival over 1500m. Gave the impression that day this trip would suit and the rail draw means he gets a great run. Meets the winner a kilo better too!

Is such a strong and honest type. Perfectly ridden when on pace last start and running out a strong and quickish mile here on Cup day to claim the $3m Big Dance from Cepheus. Since trialled well. racing in peak form and has drawn perfectly. Has claims.

echo J: J Parr T: J O'Shea

Is a terrific miler and is trained here. Last start covered a bit of ground over the last 800m yet still kept coming when 4th in a mile race here in handy time beaten 4 lengths by the brilliant Unspoken. He gave the winner 6.5kg that day. From this gate he gets the perfect run and he has trialled impressively recently. Looks to me one of the hardest to beat.

Yet to win here in 6 starts over this journey but is classy on her day. Doing best work late when beaten just under 5 lengths in Gr 1 Empire Rose last start in Vic. Trialled since. On her day she would win with this weight but form is a little below her best of late. Place.

wasn’t ready to run well when beaten 14 lengths in the Gr 1 Toorak this trip, but made up for it next start with a powerful finishing burst to claim the 1600m Cranbourne Cup on a soft track. Difficult gate here and a big ask coming from Melbourne to this race. Place at best.

Can and probably will win this. No doubt will get shuffled back from this gate to be about 8th for home but he can charge late. Last start lumped 62kg when 2nd in the Little Dance here this trip in a time that is capable of winning this. Drops 9kg! Since won a trial. Have in your numbers.

Irish horse who is in very well at the weights and has drawn nicely too. Saying that, he wilted when in a winning position at Aussie debut finishing 14th in the Golden Eagle. This is probably a length easier and has since trialled well enough. Can sneak a place.

Is smart enough and is ready to win. Had a chequered run down the straight when beaten a head by Phearson last start in the Gr 3 Festival over 1500m. Wins if he gets out in time and wins if the race is 1505m. Drawn perfectly, can sit about 6th with the run of the race and has finishing power.

Is in career-best form but badly drawn. Probably will be used up a bit to find a handy spot. And he’ll need all his energy as he has not won this trip in 5 goes. Did run a super race when beaten just over 2 lengths when 2nd to Detonator Jack last start at Kembla. If he gets a good run with cover he can be a player.
