- Newcastle - Race 8
- (1300M)
- November 16, 2024
1. Private Eye (14)
Is the class and will love this track. Who cares about the big weight. Class will prevail. I can’t see him getting beaten.

Ready to Fire
2. Coal Crusher (15)
Stablemate of Private Eye. He will lead and will run them along making it a genuine race and the best horses to tend to fight it out when that happens. Carried 56.5kg last year and led all the way to win this. Big show.

Good on Soft
3. Rustic Steel (3)
Trained here which is a big advantage and did return to form last start with an impressive on speed display. That all adds up to him having a great chance.

Ready to Fire
4. Far Too Easy (13)
Tough as nails bush galloper who was on speed all the way on a slow track yet still ran a very fast 1200m time to win the Kosciuszko from Front Page. This is much harder but he doesn’t know how to run a bad race. Sure to be prominent.

5. Royal Merchant (2)
Terrific, tough mare on her day and does appear back in form following the past 2 really good runs. Latest was when 5th in the $2million Invitation behind Belclare in super fast time at Randwick. Was beaten 4 lengths that day but her individual time in that race would make her a massive hope here if she replicated it.

Ready to Fire
6. Phearson (1)
The trainer says he’s flying and he should be on speed from the get-go. His form, however, suggests he will get thrashed in this. Watch market but I’m not keen.

Good on Soft
7. Coastwatch (6)
Drawn and weighted well. On form leading into this he would rate a hope, 5th over 1300m in Gr 2 Theo Marks strongly supporting that. However, he just folded up over 1400m in Melbourne last start. This may also test. Does improve in the wet though.

Good on Soft
9. Cotehele (7)
Resumes here but it has been about a year since he last raced. Was 3rd then in the Little Dance over a mile. Trialled very well however.
-
Good on Soft
10. Chrysaor (4)
Handy on his day but has been thrashed at past couple of starts in slightly easier grade. Did win over 1400m at Flemington in September but not keen.

11. Diamond Diesel (9)
Two runs back from spell have been average but he might be ready to run a bit of a race at huge odds here. Carried big weight when beaten 4 lengths last start in good time.
-
Good on Soft
12. Felix Majestic (8)
Help run a record last start in the Ladies Day Cup over 1500m at Hawkesbury in slightly easier grade. Led and kept fighting finishing a close up 4th. This is harder and there is genuine speed to go with him early so looks tested.

14. Briasa (11)
Is charging through the grades and seems to be improving every run. Was way too good in BM 88 class over 1250m last start. This is yet another big step up in terms of grade and distance but there is a lot of money around to say he can handle it.
