Preview – G1 Underwood Stakes

Grand old stager who tends to race very well fresh. Has been trialling well. Did win a Gr 1 Melbourne Cup remember so he is tough and should be hitting the line well here.

Looks the winner. There are a couple like Lindermann and Smoking’ Romans who also like to lead but this bloke wins if he finds the front without challenge. If per chance they want to take him on, he can snag back into 3rd. Is very fit and was a game 2nd to Mr Brightside last week this level at Gr 1. That was 1600m and he can get away with this.

Has raced against 27 horses since resuming and has beaten just one home. Capable of winning this on his day but is racing so poorly this time up.

Not all that far away when resuming last start and making a little ground late when 11th to Mr Brightside. Gets extra 400m here and is fitter. May sneak a place.

Seems to be rounding into form perfectly. Placed this level behind Pinstriped last start in the Feehan over a mile. Moved up to win but ran out of gas last 75m. Much fitter now and has claims. Big hope if wet.

Generally takes a few runs to find his feet but when he does he is smart at this trip. Likes to be on pace. Up with leaders last start in Bm 100 and beaten less than 2 lengths. This is harder but he is fitter. Place.

When he raced in Europe he was about 5 lengths inferior to the very best stayers in Europe but in two runs in Australia this far hasn’t shown anywhere near that. In fact, is yet to beat a runner home in either race. Prefer to look at here.

Brings very exciting Brisbane winter form into this first up. Does race well when fresh. Came with powerful finishing burst to win Gr 2 at eagle farm over 2200m at WFA. Watch market because he might be very smart.

Won the Aust Cup Prelude over 2000m in super fast time last prep and two runs later won the Mornington Cup over 2400m in fast time. Runs near the speed and is very exciting. Resumed with a game 2nd in that strong BM 100 over a mile here. Fitter now and rates highly.

Could be the one to watch here. Has a powerful finishing burst and showed that when resuming last start at this track over 1700m when he came from 11th on the bend at Listed level and won with authority. This is harder but can finish.

Very smart stayer getting set for the Gr 1 Melbourne Cup. Wasn’t far away when resuming last start and 10th to Mr Brightside in Gr 1 Memories. This is 400m further and could shock a few of these.

Smart horse who is fitter now following a good 8th to Mr Brightside in the 1400m Gr 1 Memsie. Better this trip and can be right in this at big odds.

Front-runner with talent on his day. Is 3rd up here and Hughie is back to ride. Led and run down late over 1600m last start in Gr 2 Chelmsford in Sydney. This is harder and may have a fight with Alligator Blood for the front. Can place.

Could be the dark horse. Resumed with a strong 5th to Mr Brightside then stormed home from 7th on bend when beaten a nose in the 1600m Feehan. Super fit now and this trip will surely suit. But, will have to go a long way back early from this bad gate.

Top class mare on her day and is 3rd up here. Is a multiple Gr 1 winner and can really sprint hard when her mind is on the job. Disappointing in Gr 2 Chelmsford last start though.

Classy stayer who is Melbourne Cup bound. Is 2nd up here and might be making good ground late.

West Aussie star who was eye-catching when 5th to Pinstriped in the Feehan over a mile last start. Has won up to 2400m so can rattle home late here too into a place.
