- Randwick - Race 8
- (1400M)
- April 20, 2024
1. Private Eye (10)
has he come up this campaign? last start was beaten nearly 6 lengths at WFA in The Galaxy over 1100m at 3rd run back. Was caught very wide all the way and allowed to coast home the final 100m. This trip appears to suit more and with the expected speed coming early in the race he should be able to slot in. I’m expecting a marked improvement on recent poor placings.

2. Golden Mile (13)
Is very fit now and will be on pace or just behind it. When he races up on speed he is a very smart horse even at this level. Last start was $51 in the Gr 1 George Ryder over 1500m at WFA and yet was right in the fray at the end finishing 4th to Veight. Has to be considered.

3. Buenos Noches (3)
Got to the outside and ran home moderately last start from last on the bend of 13 when beaten just over 2 lengths by Chain of Lightning in the big Gr 1 TJ Smith. Has never raced at this trip and all his 4 starts this time up have been disappointing. Not keen.

4. Bandersnatch (12)
Is tough and honest and consistent and showed that last start when with leaders all the way at Rosehill and 3rd over 1500m in the Gr 3 Doncaster Prelude behind Another Will. This is a few lengths harder at WFA so may struggle late but at big odds will be in the firing line for a good while.

5. Buffalo River (9)
Deserves a crack at this because of what Pride Of Jenni did last week. By way of explanation, she is a natural-born leader and they let her run and this bloke is too. Which explains why he ran poorly last start when absolutely slaughtered by the rider at Caulfield. He will be big odds here but if they ride him for speed from gate rise he should improve considerably on his 6th in a much, much weaker Gr 3 over 1400m last run. It was a tragedy to watch how he was ridden last start. Big show.

Good on Soft
6. Airman (11)
Will be huge odds in this and rightly so as he hasn’t set the world on fire in either of his 2 starts this campaign. Latest was beaten 3 lengths by Bandi’s Boy in Gr 3 Star Kingdom after racing wide all the way. Has broken 1.09 for 1200m in the past so can run. Fitter now but this is much harder than last start.

7. Amenable (14)
was surprisingly well backed at WFA last start when 2nd up in the Gr 1 George Ryder. After travelling midfield just plodded last 200m when beaten just over 4 lengths by Veight and 9th. Fitter now but this seems an even deeper field.

8. Chain Of Lightning (4)
Since returning to Sydney and racing on a different lead leg she has proven to be unstoppable. Firstly, shocked with powerful win in the 1200m Gr 3 Birthday Card on a good track with 58.5kg then last start was on speed all the way and just defied every challenger late to win the Gr 1 TJ Smith on a wet track. Super fit, has won this trip and is a mare in glistening form. Loves it damp. Big danger.

9. Espiona (8)
Looks the winner for mine. Is a world-class galloper at this trip and when 3rd up last start in the 1200m Gr 1 TJ Smith was beaten less than a length but should have won it easily. If she gets out in time in this – it’s all over.

10. Sunshine In Paris (2)
Outstanding racemare who is in fine form and is now ready to peak being 3rd up. Beaten a nostril in the Gr 1 Galaxy over 1100m when resuming and last start was just half a length behind Chain of Lightning in the Gr 1 TJ Smith over 1200m. Goes better this trip, and is already a winner here at Gr 1 level this journey. Huge threat.

11. Magic Time (6)
is 3rd up here so presumably is now at her top. When resuming she moved up to win the Gr 1 Newmarket at Flemington over 1200m, but wilted in the final 100m when beaten 2 lengths by Cylinder. Then last start, snuck up on the inside and looked the winner at the 200m but again plodded last 100m when beaten a length by Chain of Lightning in the Gr 1 TJ Smith. Does go particularly well this trip and will be in the finish.

12. Southport Tycoon (5)
super 3YO colt with the world at his feet. scratched last start because of the mud but his form is outstanding, latest run showed that when beating subsequent Gr 1 winners Veight and Riff Rocket home in the Gr 1 Australian Guineas over a mile at Flemington. Freshened for this and 2 recent trials say he is flying. Has claims.

13. Encap (7)
Star but luckless 3YO who has scored just once in 11 runs but is always a threat. Should nearly have won the gr 1 Randwick Guineas 2 starts back when 5th to supestar Celestial Legend beaten a length but did get out in time and ran on only. fairly last start beaten 3 lengths into 6th behind Veight in the Gr 1 Ryder. Loves this trip and should be running on hard late.

14. Tiz Invincible (1)
Is classy on her day but 3 runs this time up have suggested she isn’t racing with a great thirst for victory. This should test also.
