Can ISOTOPE continue her terrific recent form and win the 3yo Magic Millions Guineas on the Gold Coast this Saturday? Punters can get $2.50* for ISOTOPE to finish in the Top 2 in the $1.9 million race with Palmerbet. Racing writer, Justin Devine, takes a look at the 3yo’s chances and identifies her main dangers in the $1.9 million race.

The Beginning

On Saturday the 11th of April 2020 a 2yo Filly called ISOTOPE made her debut. The Filly had shown a bit in her trials and the bookies opened her up as a $2.20 favourite. The betting opened and the money flooded in for the $175k Magic Millions purchase. She was crunched into a $1.75 quote by the time they jumped. It was an easy watch (below) as she went straight to the front and gave nothing else a chance to win by a 10 length margin.

From Strength to Strength

Since her debut win, ISOTOPE has recorded three wins and two seconds from six runs with her only unplaced run in the Group 1 JJ Atkins in June where she was caught wide from a poor draw. In the early stages of her career, she could be her own worst enemy, missing the start twice which lead to other defeats. She looks to have put those antics behind her, jumping soundly at her last two runs to record dominant victories. Her win in the Listed Mode Stakes (below) at Doomben two runs back was effortless and gave a glimpse of her untapped potential.

Magic Millions 3YO Guineas

ISOTOPE has enjoyed a perfect build-up to the $1.9 million Magic Millions Guineas. She comes into the race in winning form and will be ridden by Ryan Maloney. Maloney won the race last year on ALLIGATOR BLOOD. With a 30% win strike rate and a 24% ROI over the last 12 months, the Gollan/Maloney combination is flying. Drawn perfectly in gate 7, ISOTOPE will enjoy the run of the race just off the speed before powering home late. She is race fit and raring to go. There will be no excuses.

The Dangers

Last year’s 2yo Magic Millions Classic winner AWAY GAME ($4.2)  is looking to become the first horse to win both of the feature Magic Millions races. She was run down by ISOTOPE when first up in the Listed Gold Edition Stakes (below) last start. She will strip fitter for the run. With a good draw and Glen Boss to steer she is the obvious danger. She has “been there done that” before. GOTTA KISS ($16) made up nice ground late in the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate at Eagle Farm two weeks ago and will be cherry ripe on Saturday. She looks the knockout chance.
