Racing expert, RIC CHAPMAN, looks at today’s meetings and singles out his top three racing tips for the Albury and Scone meetings. Good luck, punters!
Albury R1 Mdn Hcp 900m
You couldn’t have missed the terrific debut run of KING KONG COD the other day. It was a strong maiden, that needs to be established early here, and he was near last coming to the bend. But he lengthened and came home hard to grab 3rd. Now, that was 1000m. Today he drops another 100m and the tempo probably will be even faster mid-race. That’s a bit of a worry, but this long straight will suit his style and I suspect he has natural class. Should be flying home.
Scone R6 – BM58 Hcp 1300m
CHAREADY, a beaten odds-on pop in this grade last start, might very well atone today. His connections think he’s a city class galloper and from his 4 trips to the track thus far he has shown glimpses of that talent. He won his maiden over this trip, this track two starts back and won it in style. That maiden was pretty strong too. When beaten last start, he got a long way back. The race was 100m less than this and he didn’t disgrace himself when flashing late to grab 2nd.
Albury R5 – Cl 3 Hcp 1000m
Fairly even bunch but I always favour horses coming back in class. And BIG DAY OUT is that horse here. He is a 3Yo and goes up 6kg but he ran through the line impressively last start in Open grade to grab 3rd. He has been racing for a fair while, but he must be clean-winded, durable and he certainly is honest. Should be just off the speed as they turn and his fitness can get him home in front of CHAP’S DREAM who resumes here on home track.
