Form student, SCOTT MCDONELL, previews Day Two of the Warrnambool Carnival, with horse racing tips and analysis for all 10 races on the card. Good luck, punters!
Track Condition: Heavy 9
Rail Position: True
Like the mare CULLIER. She looked like she would benefit from her first-up run when placed at Bendigo last start and this a nice maiden for her.
The big watch in this is the debutant ALMSGIVER from the local Williams stable. Sure to be well educated and with Dean Yendall aboard would keep close eye on market moves.
NEXT STEP BERRIMA was doing best work final stages when placed in the small field at Geelong on debut. Better from the race experience and he must be included in place chances.
BOBSLED may not have run the 2080m when weakened badly as favourite at Cranbourne last start. Drawn to drive through and lead again and back to this trip ideal.
SLY CORNER comes into this ready third-up from spell. He has been placed in both runs this time in and although drawn bit wide can get away with this.
TYPHOON MOON is a filly who looks close to a maiden win. Two placings to begin this campaign and third-up from spell must include in major chances.
INTENSE was making good late ground when finished just behind placings at Hamilton last start. Drawn perfectly and he may sneak into a minor placing.
SPIRIT DE LUNE has been placed in all three starts. Not far off a maiden win and the Gerry Ryan colours are synonymous with the Warrnambool carnival.
Tip: SLY CORNER
Really liked the way COUNTY HALL finished the race off when placed at Stawell on debut. Drawn a little awkwardly but going to have something each way in an even race.
HIGH FEROCITY comes into this of four solid placings leading into this. Chased home bravely behind Red Santa at Geelong last start and from ideal gate he can figure.
NEEDLEWORK improved at Mornington last start when chased home steadily into a late minor placing. Nice each way odds and she may sneak into a minor spot.
THEMAGICNEVERENDS powered home late when placed at Terang first-up from spell. Strips fitter for this and will be in the finish.
Tip: COUNTY HALL
REXMONT did everything right when led throughout to win over the Steeples at Pakenham last start. Expect they will try similar tactics and roll along up front again and he will take catching.
MICHELIN has been solid enough in two flat runs leading into this. Back over the larger obstacles and would expect him to be right in the mix.
RIDING HIGH was impressive winning on the flat at Werribee two back then just did not settle when weakened over the hurdles. Fitter off a recent Steeple trial and with Pateman aboard must respect.
The Patrick Payne trained MACKLEMORE won Steeplechase with something in hand at Murray Bridge last start. Would not leave him out of multiples.
MCKEEVER started a short priced favourite on debut at Bendigo and after doing it tough with a wide run he burst away for soft win in the end. He looks smart and can win again.
CATARACTA brings some solid city form with her to Warrnambool. Placed here fresh before two competitive efforts. This looks right race.
REWARD WITH RETURN looked home at the 200m at Swan Hill first-up but fitness told final stages when run peaked. Fitter and will look winner at some stage in straight.
DINGA did enough when placed first-up at Cranbourne. Will not mind if there is plenty of rain about and cannot leave out of multiples.
SAUNTER BOY started long odds on over the hurdles at Pakenham and he led from start to finish for soft win. Should control this race again and will be the one to catch.
INSTIGATOR is the obvious danger. Will be giving them a start but the way he accelerated from the corner to win by big space last start was impressive. He can win again.
BRITANNICUS was strong winning at Oakbank two starts back then just found one better at Hamilton last start. Racing well and must respect.
BLOOD AND SAND resumes after two and a half years. He won the J.J.Houlahan hurdle through the mud at Ballarat in 2018. Two trials should have him forward enough for this and if wet his chances enhanced.
Tip: SAUNTER BOY
Lindsay Smith produces an in form gelding in NATIONAL GUARD having won his last couple with exciting finishing bursts. Will not mind if there is any rain about as one on the heavy here two back. Nice each way bet.
DASHING TYCOON resumes. He has been placed in two of his four first-up tries. Raced well in town last time in work and on his home track must respect.
FIORENTE LASS just did not run out a strong 2100m at Sandown last start but she had been placed at two previous starts this prep and must respect.
SPANISH SNITZEL finished the race off hard to win at Bendigo last start. He finds a similar race here and no reason he cannot win again.
Tip: NATIONAL GUARD
MORRISSY flies fresh (4:1-2-0) and expect this may have been a target for him since Magic Millions day on the Gold Coast. Gets through rain affected ground well enough and he will be powering home over these.
GREAT AGAIN is another who finds best form when fresh (7:3-1-0). Two Group 3 placings to finish his last campaign and although drawn awkwardly he will be right in the mix.
DEXELATION comes into this ready third-up from spell. Placed in Group 3 at Morphettville last start but he has drawn out in the car park and needs some luck. Place claims.
HEPTAGON resumes. Beaten less than 2 lengths in this race last year and looked touch unlucky. Only needs to find that form and he will be right in the mix.
Really liked the way SOVEREIGN GOLD accelerated last 100m to win with something in hand at Terang on debut. Drawn to get the ideal run in transit and she can make it two from two.
CRANC has won three of his four starts. Most recent was a gutsy win at Swan Hill when arrived at the right time. Needs some luck from wide gate but cannot leave out of chances.
IRISH ROCKSTAR won maiden in a canter on debut then he overraced a touch in town last start but battled on well. Resumes in a winnable race.
ICE ICE BABY started favourite at Cranbourne last start but just found one better in the run home. Racing consistently and will not be far away.
Tip: SOVEREIGN GOLD
NIKAU SPUR is another who made a big impression first-up from spell when he strolled in at Pakenham. Strips fitter and although drawn awkwardly will be in the finish.
CORNER POCKET was impressive over final stages winning at Ballarat first-up from spell and that made it three straight. No reason he cannot win again.
KENT STREET has been racing in better form than his finishing positions suggest in town. Back on home track and will not mind if there is some rain about.
VARDANI is the big query. Import having his first Australian start. Biggest concern is that he was poor on heavy ground before coming to Australia. Watch market.
