Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, looks at today’s meetings and singles out his top three horse racing tips from Armidale & Nowra. Good luck, punters!
I think I’ll back one each way here at $51. His name is REINMAN, he’s a maiden who has never run a place and he is up against the highly consistent SUNSTONE who is an odds on fav. So why? Well, he just looks like a grinder who doesn’t have speed but can run all day. He was 8th at his most recent start in a maiden at Wyong, but under 59kg I actually liked the way he kept trying to the line. This is 600m further. He is fitter and it should be a couple of lengths easier. Plus…as honest as Sunstone is, I have questions about her ability to run 2200m right out.
This is a rather big ask for a 3YO filly, but trainer John Sargent is a Gr 1 winning trainer, and still about the best conditioner of a racehorse in the land. Speaking of land, this is just LAND AHOY’s 3rd race start and Sarge has her in here at BM 66 level following a runaway maiden win over 1300m and last start’s strong 3rd in a very strong Cl 1 at Newcastle. That run told the trainer how gutsy this filly is. So I’m banking on his years of experience in placing horses to be spot on here.
Tip: LAND AHOY
This is a good betting race. Even though it’s been reduced to eight runners, there is depth. I like the toppie AIR MARSHAL because he’s the best horse in the race. But, he isn’t in well at the weights as CEREMONIAL PRINCE and BROOKE lead that category. Saying that, I could not put a knock on his last start performance when introduced to this region’s racing. He formerly was trained in Adelaide but looks to have thrived since heading north in NSW. He was 14th for home in a similar race over 1000m at Muswellbrook and charged home failing to collect only the winner, by a long head. Extra 100m suits here. That track likes horses to run on more than this one does but to counter that, I think he sits a couple of pairs closer in the run.
