Form analyst, JUSTIN DEVINE, previews Sunday’s meeting at Sha Tin, with horse racing tips and analysis for all 10 races on the card. Good luck, punters!
Track Condition: Good
Rail Position: True, entire circuit
Sha Tin R1 – Class 5 2000m
SKY GEM is the clear top pick on recent form. He has recorded three minor placings in a row and will handle the step up to 2000m with the Magic Man to ride. The wide gate is his biggest concern. HOME WIN was solid first up and should get a nice run from barrier 1 while PROUD SKY is capable of running a race with a lightweight.
Tip: SKY GEM
Sha Tin R2 – Class 4 1400m
COPARTNER ERA didn’t get a clear run until it was too late last start and was beaten 1.5 lengths. Joao Moreia jumps on today in what is a massive positive and he is the one to beat. MERRYGOWIN has placed twice first up in the past and is expected to run well fresh. He will give 9kgs to the favourite in what is likely to be the difference in the run home. HANG’S DECISION had no luck from the poor draw last start and can sit closer in the run this week. He is one to include in exotics at odds.
Tip: COPARTNER ERA
Sha Tin R3 – The Premier Bowl Group 2 1200m
The first of two Group 2 races looks a ripper. The two at the bottom of the weights look to be at an advantage. COMPUTER PATCH gave nothing a chance in the National Day Cup and looks a horse with a big future. Expect him to be too good in the run home again. PERFECT MATCH won well last start and can handle the step up to group company. He is the danger. HOT KONG PRAWN has a fantastic first-up record and has done nothing wrong in his recent trials. The 60kgs may be a bridge too far for him this week.
Tip: COMPUTER PATCH
Sha Tin R4 – Class 4 1600m
SEAWEED FORTUNE was a track and distance winner two runs back and ran on well last start for 4th. Expect him to fight out the finish. CIRCUIT NUMBER ONE sat up on the speed for 4th first up and drops 1.5kg from that run. He will strip fitter and give a great sight. FAST PACE has shown enough at his three career runs to suggest he will be competitive and the booking of Moreira suggests he is ready to fire.
Tip: SEAWEED FORTUNE
Sha Tin R5 – Class 4 1200m
This is an interesting race with a number of first starters and/or lightly raced horses engaged. TRIPLE TRIPLE has been OK at his recent runs and with Zac Purton to ride from gate 3 he has had plenty of market support. An improved showing is predicted. SUPER RED DRAGON has finished second at three of his last four runs and is knocking on the door of a win. However, he is a 15 start maiden which does sound the alarm bells! SPARKY STAR finished 2.5 lengths off the winner last time and looks capable of running a good race on the back of a nice trial.
Tip: TRIPLE TRIPLE
Sha Tin R6 – Class 4 1200m AWT
STRIKING MR C finished last season off well with a win and a second and has trialled well. A first up winner in the past, he looks the best each-way bet on the card. FORTUNE HAPPINESS continues to find one or two better than him in his races but will give a good account of himself and be thereabouts in the run home. SUNNY AND GOLD worked home strongly for 4th over the 1000m first up and will appreciate the step up to 1200m today. With Zac aboard, he looks a great chance.
Tip: STRIKING MR C
Sha Tin R7 – Sha Tin Trophy Group 2 1600m
The superstar GOLDEN SIXTY was too good for his rivals first up after 27 weeks in the Celebration Cup and will only be better for the run. Only bad luck and plenty of it can stop him. I can’t wait to watch him. BEAUTY GENERATION and CHAMPIONS WAY dead-heated for second in the Celebration Cup and will once again battle it out for the minor money.
Tip: GOLDEN SIXTY
Sha Tin R8 – Class 2 1200m AWT
WILL POWER loves the dirt track and was an impressive first-up winner last month. He won his only other second-up run and is the one to beat despite the wide draw. RED DESERT won his last start back in June and has had four trials in the lead up to today’s run. He will be cherry ripe. SUNNY BOY can lead them up at big odds and prove hard to catch. Include him in exotics.
Tip: WILL POWER
Sha Tin R9 – Class 3 1200m
WINNING DREAM has won three from three and looks a progressive type. He can box seat in the run and be too strong in the run to the line. The best bet of the day. CHICKEN DANCE chased WINNING DREAM home last time and will be better for the run. He is the danger. SCORES OF FUN steps up in class for the Size and Moreira combination after winning his first two starts in class 4 grade. He is one to watch. It would be a surprise to see the winner to come from outside these three.
Tip: WINNING DREAM
Sha Tin R10 – Class 3 1400m
PRESIDENT’S CHOICE is knocking on the door of another win after a couple of recent placings and should be reaching his peak. He looks ready to step up to 1400m. ARMOR STAR steps up to class 3 after a good win in class 4 and drops 5kgs. A two-time track and distance winner, he will be there at the finish. CIRCUIT HASSLER is another who steps up in class after a win. He will get back in the run before finishing strongly. He looks a knockout chance.
