Form student, RIC CHAPMAN, previews Day 2 of Scone’s big annual two-day carnival. Here are his thoughts for all eight races on the card. Good luck, punters!

Rail Position: Out 3m from 800m to winning post; true remainder

Track Condition: Soft 5

Interesting race to start the program. And really does look a match race to me between MILITARY ZONE and WILD PLANET. Both have raced better rivals and both have form in stakes races. Military Zone finished like a really smart young horse to win a similar class of race last start while Wild Planet, in a different but similar race, was placed. Perhaps TOTAL POWER can fill 3rd spot. Respect the top 2.

He has a big weight but his form really is good enough to win this. I’m talking about the toppie HIGH OPINION who was nabbed on the line in the recent Open grade Wagga Gold Cup. He gets a 2kg weight relief and looms large as does his stablemate, the former Englishman FAIRLIGHT. If there is rain about he’s even better. Solid stayer improving all the time. Big show. THE BANDIT has been finding the line well of late and seems happy enough these days. Rates a show also.

This will test jockey Tommy Berry being drawn deep on this seemingly very smart Anthony Cummings-trained filly LIBERTINI. Her win when resuming in a similar type of race last start was head turning. And is fitter now. Could be a Dad vs Son battle here as James Cumming brings his last start winner DEVACHAN up for this contest. She has a late turn of foot so should be in the money. JUST FIELD won only start in good fashion but it was a bush maiden. The form is standing up so looks capable.

The weight claim and the great draw are in the favour of AMERICANA MAGIC who stormed home to win an easier race against a few of these impressively last start when 2nd up. Big show. WAGNER should sit about 8th early and is very fit now. Ran on for 2nd in a similar race last start and must be respected. Bad gate for STAR OF MONSOON but he was less than a length behind Americana Magic last start when resuming and meets him 1.5kg better. THREE SHEETS at big odds has talent enough to place.

PROPHET’S THUMB has barely beaten a runner home past two starts but upon closer inspection, the runs have been good, especially last start when just 3.5lengths behind boom sprinter Classique Legend. Will improve considerably here and actually looks very well placed. GONGS was pretty unreliable last campaign. Gets back and runs on when right and did place just prior to spell. Trials have been good. Watch market. EVALINA is up in grade but just keeps improving and may well be able to handle it. Runner-up in Prov Champs heat and is consistent.

DEPLOY is enigmatic. He holds two track records and is frightfully fast on his day but hasn’t had a day for a while. Has trialled up really pleasingly and if he gets loose on the lead without pressure we might see him return to his best. Which would win this. TREKKING finished like a train to claim a Gr 3 sprint last start. Is always honest and rates another big show. LANCIATO and the gifted INTUITION both have powerful finishing bursts and will be suited by the pace here.

The weights make this an interesting race. PRINCESS POSH has a big weight but on her day could mow these down. The past couple have been average runs but freshened for this. SIREN’S FURY will appreciate this drop in grade. Has bad gate so probably drops toward the rear but can muster late on her day. ORGANZA is smart and consistent. Resumes here but trialled very well.

Wow, a race with enormous early speed. So let’s look at those who rattle home and VIRIDINE fits that mould perfectly. Hasn’t won for a while and deserves a big race win as he does hit the line very hard. VICTOREM is from the bush and is a very, very good sprinter. Resumes here after a couple of great trials. Needs cover but if he finds it he’s a player. DOTHRAKI is in a great gate and on his day he would win this. Overlook past few runs.
