Form analyst, SCOTT MCDONELL, previews Saturday’s Sandown Hillside meeting, with horse racing tips and analysis for all 10 races. Good luck, punters!
Track Condition: Good 4
Rail Position: True entire circuit
Really liked the maiden win of QEYAADY here first-up when sat up on the speed before fighting off all challengers. He will strip fitter for this and from ideal barrier should get his chance in straight.
SEE YOU IN SPRING gave nothing else a chance when led all the way to win on debut at Cranbourne. This looks a nice progression and she can make it two in a row.
SILENT THEORY looked impressive winning his Benalla trial. Sure to be well educated from the Corstens camp and if any stable support would respect on debut.
GULF OF SUEZ has been a little disappointing in his last couple of starts but he has been Listed placed and class will take him a long way in this.
HARLEM BLUES knuckled down and chased home strongly to get up in last couple of strides here last start. Drawn to get perfect run and he can win again.
MODEAR has little early speed and expect she will sit back at rear. If she can get some clear galloping room early in the straight she will be the one to watch for late.
HEKA EXPRESS chased home strongly when placed behind Harlem Blues here last start. She finds similar race and she should be in finish again.
LADY SOLLY raced on the speed here last start. She was only run down late by Harlem Blues. If she can get a cheap sectional up front she will take some catching.
Tip: HARLEM BLUES
Hard to find a runner to beat CORDILLA in this. She improved into the race menacingly at Caulfield last start and really let down nicely. Expect Will Price to hold her up for as long as possible and she should be too smart for these.
SIG POSITANO deserves his chance in town after a string of provincial wins leading into this. Should sit in behind the speed and if presented at the right time will give this a shake.
Liked the way MR TIPLA chased home back on the fence at Caulfield last start and ran into a minor spot. Ideal barrier draw and expect him to be a factor.
MY PENDANT looked like she needed the run first-up when just did not finish the race off well enough. She has a solid second-up record and from ideal barrier she cannot be left out.
GRAND PROMENADE comes into this ready to win third-up from spell. Two strong placings in similar races to this leading in and he should go one better in this field.
PLAYOFFS fought the race out strongly to win at The Valley two starts back then went to Bendigo last start and was bit one paced late. If he can find his best form he should be prominent.
MIYAKE is another that looks to be at peak fitness third-up from spell. Beaten less than 3 lengths in similar class at Caulfield last outing and he can sneak a place.
CRIMSON ACE powered home to just miss at Cranbourne last start when beaten favourite. This a tougher test but the big Sandown track will suit her.
Tip: GRAND PROMENADE
Great training effort to have DICE ROLL ready to resume at Caulfield last start after a long time off the scene from a Hong Kong prep. Chased hard last 200m and got up final strides. Sure to be better from the outing and can win again.
BIOMETRIC was beaten less than 2 lengths in G3 Victoria Handicap last start. He gets back in an easier race here and if he finds that form would be right in the mix.
LIM’S CRUISER comes across Bass Strait in good form. Finished the race out strongly to just miss at Hobart last start. Drawn ideally and should get his chance.
YULONG JANUARY just settled too far back at Caulfield first-up and only got going late. Won two of four second-up from spell so expect he will improve.
Tip: DICE ROLL
There is a Kiwi influence that I like in this. AIMEE’S JEWEL comes across the Tasman for the first time. She won in Group 3 company three starts back then next couple of starts in Group 1 and Group 2 class respectively. She was not beaten all that far fresh last time in work and her class will take her a long way. Each way.
OPALESCENCE is another Kiwi girl coming over the ditch. She won the G3 Bonecrusher Stakes at Ellerslie back in December. Mitch Beer gave her a nice hit out winning Albury trial and would not be surprised to see her run a competitive race.
INFLUENTIAL GIRL comes into this third-up from spell. Competitive in Group 3 class in Sydney first-up then beaten less than a length at Caulfield. She is ready to win.
LA CHEVALEE resumes. She got her maiden out of the way when first-up last time in work then progressed through to Flemington win. Had trial to get her ready for first-up tilt and cannot leave out.
Tip: AIMEE’S JEWEL
Going to have something each way on FLORESCENT STAR with the advantage of apprentice claim. She jumped to the front and held them all off for all the way win last start and that made it three wins from last four starts this prep. Drawn to get perfect run and she can win.
TRANSPLANT had no luck in Listed class in Adelaide on debut but still ran a competitive race then she went out and demolished a maiden field at Kilmore. She can measure up to these.
SIGNORINA deserves her chance in town having won here last two starts on the provincial circuit. Drawn out in the car park makes this a tough task but she can measure up.
DUBAI STAR should be at peak fitness this time in. Placed in two of his three starts this prep and although drawn wide looks one for first four players.
Tip: FLORESCENT STAR
SPRING CHOICE comes into this ready third-up from spell. Only just missed at Lakeside first-up then went to Caulfield and was beaten less than 2 lengths. This a winnable race for him.
DIRTY DEEDS brings consistent form into this with three solid placings leading into this. Well backed and just missed at Bendigo last start and he can measure up to these.
SOMERSET MAUGHAM was too bad to be true at Caulfield last start when finished out the back. Sure to be better from that outing and from inside gate should be an improver.
INDESPENSABLE showed a nice turn-of-hoof to get up last couple of strides at Ballarat last start. Finds harder race but would not leave out of multiples.
Tip: SPRING CHOICE
Most punters saw the luckless run of VOWMASTER at Caulfield last start and he arguably should have won. Nice wide expansive straight at Sandown will suit him and he can get away with this.
VALAQUENTA was placed in the same Caulfield race as Vowmaster. Just finding it hard to win a race this campaign but he is always competitive and expect he will be right in the mix.
SWEETZOU won with something in hand here two starts back then beaten just over a length at Caulfield last start. Gets the ideal barrier and will take holding out final stages.
FREE TO MOVE resumes. Placed at Bendigo first-up from spell last start and raced in consistent form throughout campaign. Looks the value for multiples.
