Form analyst, JUSTIN DEVINE, previews Wednesday’s meeting at Happy Valley, with horse racing tips and analysis for all 9 races on the card. Good luck, punters!
Track Condition: Good
Rail Position: True, entire circuit
Happy Valley R1 – Class 5 1200m
TIGERLAD was beaten by a length last start and has placed over the 1200m at Happy Valley three times in total. VITAL SPRING finished just behind TIGERLAD last time and the pair should battle out the finish. With Moreira and 52kgs I’m with TIGERLAD. NOBLE MAN drops back to class 5 grade after a solid run in class 4 company last start and looks the next best despite a big weight.
Happy Valley R2 – Class 5 1650m
The ultra-consistent VIRTUS STAR made up good ground last start to finish third and will find the line strongly again tonight. The $9 on offer is a huge price and he is the best each-way bet on the card. HAPPY HOUR put in his best run for over a year when placed last time and Zac Purton retains the ride. He is the danger. CALIFORNIA LEGEND is another who has been racing consistently and will get a nice run from the Frenchman Soumillion. Expect the winner to come from these three in a race that lacks depth.
Tip: VIRTUS STAR
Happy Valley R3 – Class 4 1200m
MY ECSTATIC was narrowly defeated by an odds-on favourite last time with a space back to third. He only needs to repeat that run to break his maiden status. The standout bet on the card. JAZZ STEED zoomed home from the rear to finish third over 1000m last time and will appreciate the step up to 1200m. The 3kg claim will help. SPRINT FORWARD has struggled after his first-up win but is capable of pulling out a big run on occasions. He is the knockout chance.
Tip: MY ECSTATIC
Happy Valley R4 – Class 4 1200m
EVER FORCE has improved at both his career runs and from gate 1 with Zac aboard he won’t get a better chance to win a race. NOBLE BOYZ is a first starter who has shown some talent in his trials and is a big watch in betting. PEAK TO PEAK is another who continues to improve and a good showing would not surprise.
Tip: EVER FORCE
Happy Valley R5 – Class 4 1000m
An interesting race with a number of first starters engaged. WHISKEY NEAT has recorded four placings at his last six outings and has drawn to get all the favours in the run. He is clearly the best chance of those with race experience. HARMONY FIRE, MY MY MY and OFF THE REEL are all making their debuts and have looked good in their trials. Any market moves must be respected. I am tipping WHISKEY NEAT due to his race experience with a keen eye on the other three.
Tip: WHISKEY NEAT
Happy Valley R6 – Class 4 1650m
V CHEVALIERS has a terrific track and distance record and never runs a bad race. He will be thereabouts in the run home. PLAT WISE got a long way back last start and didn’t get into the race at his last start, but his previous form is good enough to be competitive tonight. I can forgive one poor run. DIVINE UNICORN is horribly out of form and returns back to class 4 grade tonight. He must be respected at this level.
Tip: V CHEVALIERS
Happy Valley R7 – Class 3 1000m
Ex-Australian KAI XIN DRAGON was beaten 4 lengths on his Hong Kong debut and is expected to improve here. He has won over 900m in Australia before and is also a second-up winner. He can come to hand quickly. WILD WEST WING with the lightweight can lead for a long way and be hard to catch, while FABOLOUS EIGHT looks likely to run a good placing (again!).
Tip: KAI XIN DRAGON
Happy Valley R8 – Class 2 1650m
SUNSHINE WARRIOR is a three time track and distance winner who will appreciate getting back onto the turf surface at Happy Valley. Zac rides for the first time in what is a positive booking. SOLAR WAI WAI was placed last start and should get the gun run behind the leader. He will be hard to hold out. REEL BIZZY steps up in class after a nice win last start and is a knockout chance.
Tip: SUNSHINE WARRIOR
Happy Valley R9 – Class 3 1650m
A tough race to finish the night. NOBLE STEED did plenty of work when third last time and should enjoy a better trip from a nice gate tonight. He will be hard to beat. CINQUATE CINQ wasn’t far away in Group 3 company and likes the 1650m at the Valley. He will run well with the 3kg claim for Jerry Chau. ROYAL BOMB broke through for his first Hong Kong win last start and is capable of going back to back.
