Form analyst, JUSTIN DEVINE, previews Wednesday’s meeting at Happy Valley, with horse racing tips and analysis for all 8 races on the card. Good luck, punters!
Track Condition: Turf – Good
Rail Position: True, entire circuit
Happy Valley R1 – Class 4 1650m
FOCUS had been racing in great form before putting in a shocker last start. I am happy to forgive that run and he can get the prize with Joao Moreira to steer. PERFECT TO PLAY continues to be in the market when he races despite some disappointing performances and has the booking of Zac Purton tonight. He will once again be supported. STARLIGHT has placed first up in the past and with a nice draw and 53.5kgs, he can add some spice to exotics at good odds.
Happy Valley R2 – Class 3 1200m
This looks a match race between MIG ENERGY and SHAMPORT. MIG ENERGY narrowly missed two runs back and a similar run tonight will see him hard to beat. SHAMPORT has recorded three placings on the trot and is a three-time track and distance winner. It’s Purton v Moreira. Of course, it is! I’m with MIG ENERGY but it will be close. PEACH BLOSSOMS is another to watch out of the race. He is first up in Hong Kong and hasn’t raced for over a year. He showed some ability in Australia and just has had no luck getting onto the track.
Tip: MIG ENERGY
Happy Valley R3 – Class 5 1200m
TIGERLAND was defeated a short head at his last start and wouldn’t need to be a superstar to win here with 51.5kgs and the nice draw. CHUNGHWA JINGSHEN is another who was close up last time and will carry the same weight tonight with Blake Shinn retaining the ride. SMART THINKER has done zero on the track but has trialled well in recent times with Zac to ride. He is sure to be well supported.
Happy Valley R4 – Class 5 1650m
VIRTUS STAR was disappointing when well supported last start, but gets a further 2kgs off his back tonight. From gate 1 and with 51.5kgs he gets his chance to breakthrough. JOY MASTER won well last time and can handle the weight rise while V CHEVALIERS looks ready to fire after a couple of nice trials.
Tip: VIRTUS STAR
Happy Valley R5 – Class 3 1650m
LIGHTNING STEED is a three-time track and distance winner who can dictate terms from gate 1. He will be hard to run down. JOLLY HONOUR won twice last season at Happy Valley and a nice trial suggests he is ready to fire. Italian import XIANG BAI QI has three placings from his last four runs and can get a soft run off the speed for Neil Callan. A good fresh run from him wouldn’t surprise.
Tip: LIGHTNING STEED
Happy Valley R6 – Class 4 1200m
LUCKY QUALITY has recorded all his three placings over the 1200m at Happy Valley and impressed at a recent trial win. From the nice draw, he can get a soft run for Chad Schofield with some cover and power home late. The best each-way bet on the card. JADE THEATRE has been struggling in harder company and looks well-graded and weighted. He can feature in the finish. HERCULES will jump favourite due to the booking of Zac Purton and while he can win, he looks under the odds.
Tip: LUCKY QUALITY
Happy Valley R7 – Class 4 1200m
Tonight is the night for SELL MY SOLE. The beautifully bred 4yo has been narrowly defeated at his last two but with the Magic Man to ride from gate 1 he ticks all the boxes. The best bet on the card. SPRINT FORWARD has been Ok at his last couple of runs and is capable of improvement for the Hayes stable. DAILY BEAUTY won well over 1650m last start and can fill a placing fresh over the 1200m.
Tip: SELL MY SOLE
Happy Valley R8 – Class 3 1000m
ETERNAL HARVEST won well last start and from a nice draw, he can make it back to back wins tonight. FLYING GENIUS runs well at Happy Valley and I’m prepared to forgive a poor run last time. He looks the danger. GREEN AEON showed plenty of promise winning in Australia before finishing 4th on Hong Kong debut back in June. Any betting moves must be respected.
