T: Darren Weir / J: Craig Williams (55.5kg)
This is a potential superstar in the making but boy will this be some sort of training performance if she wins this because she has never raced beyond 1600m and in Sept the longest race she had ever been in was 1200m. But…she is with Darren Weir a masterful trainer of stayers and her last start 11th over 1600m in the Group 1 Empire Stakes was a terrific trial for this. Only beaten 3 lengths and this is many, many lengths inferior. If she can stay, she could spread eagle this mob.

Traditionally, and a very reliable tradition too, the best lead up race for this is the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes at this track over 2000m. Well, this filly sat up on speed all the way in this year’s Wakeful, which was run in very fast time, and out-stayed them all. Has a 1-2 head to head with Verry Elleegant so is both in form, strong and capable of mixing it with the elite here. Will be right in this.
T: Team Hayes & Dabernig / J: Jim Crowley (55.5kg)
Staying this trip out at Group 1 level is her biggest worry as she is not bred to stay. Saying that, she was up near pace all way last week when beaten only 3/4 length in fast run Group 2 Wakeful behind the smart ARISTIA. Sure to be handy and give you a great sight all the way. Put in your exotics.
T: Darren Weir / J: John Allen (55.5kg)
Here’s a dynamic, come-from-the-tail galloper who just looks perfectly placed here. She is from New Zealand originally, but calls Australia home now. And she was great at Aussie debut when eye-catching 3rd to AMPHRITRITE over a mile, then came home like a train from mile back when beating subsequent winner ARISTIA over 2000m at Group 3 level. Got too far back in the Group 2 Wakeful when fast closing 5th. Looks a special to atone.
T: Mark Newnham / J: Tim Clark (55.5kg)
This is a strong on pace Sydney galloper who may very well go to the front from barrier rise. Is Group 3 placed in Sydney and last start, it must be said, was a fading 7th to VERRY ELLEEGANT in Gr 2 Ethereal over 2000m. May find this too far.
T: Cindy Alderson / J: Luke Currie (55.5kg)
Is very smart and consistent, two massive elements for success. After a strong and close up 3rd at Group 3 level in the Ethereal to VERRY ELLEEGANT, she tried to lead all way last start in the Wakeful and was a courageous 4th, beaten 1.5 lengths, behind ARISTIA and beating Verry Elleegant home. Trip is a worry, but her honesty will carry her a long way.
T: Team Hayes & Dabernig / J: Regan Bayliss (55.5kg)
Nice filly with potential and will be running on hard. Was good 6th to VERRY ELLEEGANT in the Group 3 Ethereal over 2000m. Is new to top grade racing and may be a year away from reaching her true, top potential. But is fit and worth a long shot look at this race as she is game.
T: John Sargent / J: Mark Zahra (55.5kg)
Is in a great Group 1 staying stable and was a last start, impressive winner, but gee she is rising massively in grade for this race. Two starts back for example she was unplaced in a bush maiden. Can’t knock winning form and John Sargent is a stayer producing genius. Watch market.
T: Trent Busuttin & Nat Young / J: Stephen Baster (55.5kg)
There does appear to be a fair bit of speed in this race and this filly can provide much of that. Has won her past 2 starts, in a maiden at Canberra and then a BM 58 at Benalla, hardly form references for this Group 1 race. But she is very well bred, lightly raced, is progressive and seems to be able to stay.
T: Leon & Troy Corstens / J: Kerrin McEvoy (55.5kg)
Seems to have a lot of potential but may not be mature enough just yet. Is fresh out of maiden grade having scored a most impressive win, making enormous ground late, over 1950m at Yarra Valley. Again, that form reference is way, way inferior to this level, but potential is a good thing.
T: Darren Weir / J: Hugh Bowman (55.5kg)
This is an interesting runner. Is to be ridden by superstar staying rider Hughie Bowman, won recently won the Group 1 Cox Plate on Winx and was runner-up on Tuesday in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup. And this filly is an emerging talent. She is bred to be a star stayer and after a close 2nd in a maiden to the smart colt Grinzinger Star, she blitzed her rivals over 2124m to win an Echuca maiden. Now, that in itself isn’t overly encouraging but add the above elements to the fact Darren Weir trains her.
T: Robbie Griffiths / J: James McDonald (55.5kg)
Super talented maiden galloper who is going to develop into a star. Was last on home bend at first crack at Group level, but absolutely flew home for 4th spot in the recent Group 3 Ethereal behind VERRY ELLEEGANT. Her last 600m was fastest in race. Had previously run a trio of runner up efforts in maiden grade but over unsuitable distances. Clearly is a stayer of talent in the making.
T: Matthew Brown / J: Ben Thompson (55.5kg)
This filly is by a stallion named Needs Further, and she does. Plus needs it weaker. Has talent but not at this level.
T: Paddy Payne / J: Michelle Payne (55.5kg)
Looks very safely held here, but saying that, was 3rd in that maiden won by Grinzinger Star from Zapurler. And was doing best work late, losing the race by a long head. Since absolutely strolled in a 1860 maiden in the bush. Place show at huge odds.
T: Robbie Laing / J: Noel Callow (55.5kg)
Maiden filly who would not win this race with a head start.
