What a lovely, beautiful racehorse. He just tries every start and looks like he can run all day. Came home like a train from a mile back to narrowly lose the St Leger Trial over 2200m at Bendigo, beaten by rival here Liquor, then went to Sydney and won the Gr 1 ATC Derby coming with a similar burst. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a bloke this tough.
T: Lee Creek / J: Jacob Opperman. (56.5kg)
What a wonderful meteoric rise this bloke has performed. He has raced 8 times. He has won 5 of them, past 4 on the trot, and run 2nd the other 3 times. He has raced at this track 3 times and has never lost and did beat most of these when he strolled in to win the Port Adelaide Guineas then the Gr 3 Chairmans over 2040m. Led last start which he had never done before. Looks a real star. Big show.
T: Cindy Alderson/ J: Luke Currie (56.5kg)
Class galloper and is very strong late. Did outrun subsequent Gr 1 ATC Derby winner Explosive Jack to the wire over 2200m at Bendigo then carried 59kg and was too strong in fair time on a wet track winning the Listed Galilee Final over 2400m. Super fit and is extremely honest.
T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace / J: Ben Allen (56.5kg)
Smart galloper who has plenty fo talent on his day. Finished on the heels of the placegetters in the Gr 1 VRC Derby then spelled. Both starts this time up have been full of merit and we know he can run the trip. Finished hard when closing 2nd to Royal Mile here last start over 1800m.
T: Tom Dabernig & Ben Hayes / J: Blaike McDougall (56.5kg)
Good colt with staying talent. Finished hard when 2nd in th 2200m Geelong Classic than spelled. Since scored at Wagga in a BM 66. This may test though.
T: Mick Price & Michael Kent / J: Damian Lane (56.5kg)
Interesting galloper. Won two much easier restricted races leading into the Charmans over 2040m and didn’t give a yelp behind Royal Mile. May find this tough too.
T: Jamie Edwards / J: Jamie Mott (56.5kg)
Strong galloper on his day but may be enigmatic. Won his maiden at Sale by 7 lengths and looked a million bucks. Won again at same track in a BM 64 but last start in the Charman’s a Gr 3 race over 2040m here, he was a plodding 7th. Worth a small place ticket.
T: Team Jolly/ J: Jake Toeroek (56.5kg)
He will probably ly be at big odds but he isn’t all that bad. For instance was a good third to Royal mile carry 3kg more in a 3YO race then started at $71 and ran same horse to a length in the Chairmans at gr 3 level beating home many of these. Good place show.
T: Matt Cumani / J: will Price (56.5kg)
Is interesting. Improving type who ran out of his skin to make ground late and 5th to Royal mile in the Gr 3 Chairmans. Easily won a 1600m mdn back in March. Place at very best.
T: Andrew Noblet / J: Jason Holder (56.5kg)
Started $101 in the Chairmans over 2040m and was always well back when 9th. This should test also.
T: Chris Waller /J: Michael Walker (56.5kg)
Good emerging stayer from Sydney who boasts very consistent form and shows a liking for staying. This might be a step up from his recent efforts though. Does like to get up on the pace and battle away.
T: Chris Waller / J: Todd Pannell (56.5kg)
Good, solid stayer in the making and showed some spunk winning mdn over 1850 recently at Kyneton and last start was beaten a nose over 2400m. So can stay but might be a little rich.
T: Rob Griffiths & Mat de Kock / J: Barend Vorster (56.5kg)
was beaten nearly 3 lengths when getting home late and 6th in the Gr 1 VRC Derby last year. Three runs since have been average.
T: Leon Mcdonald & Andrew Gluyas / J: Caitlin Jones (59kg)
Maiden galloper but oddly enough isn’t the worst here. Must be sick of the sight of Royal mile having run 4th to him at his past three runs latest when only a touch over a length back in the Gr 3 Chairmans.
T: Tom Dabernig & Ben Hayes/ J: Damien Oliver (54.5kg)
Superstar filly who won the Gr 1 VRC Oaks in a cakewalk last year over this trip. Since run bravely in 4 starts all at Group level, latest when certainty beaten in the Gr 1 Australian Oaks here last weekend over 2000m. Will shake this right up.
T: Mick Huxtable / J: Karl Zechner (54.5kg)
Useful filly who was 3rd at $151 in the Gr 3 Chairmans behind Royal Mile last start coming from near last. Probably an anomaly and looks tested.
