T: David Jolly / J: Craig Williams (60kg)
Brilliant racehorse. Stormed home to win the Gr 3 Spring Stakes over 1200m in Adelaide when resuming. Then came to Melbourne and did the same thing at Gr 1 level, at this track over this trip in fast time coming out of gate 2. Not too much is different about this week other than he is even fitter. Huge chance.
T: Shane Nichols / J: Dan Stackhouse (58.5kg)
This bloke might surprise a few here because he loves this track and trip. It all depends on what they do from this wide draw. If he comes out humming in quest of the lead then he might take a lot of catching. He was beaten less than a length in the Gr 2 Feehan over a mile last start being on speed all the way. Respect him.
T: Dan Bowman / J: Declan Bates (58kg)
This is a very good racehorse. He has won 8 of 18 thus far and he likes to be aggressive early. Being third up from a spell I see him pushing forward and he has all the options in front of him from this gate. He can sit behind Streets Of Avalon if that horse charges across or he could push up and take control himself if the tempo is steady. Looks a good winning chance.
T: James Cummings /J: Damien Oliver (58kg)
Apart from being a very good looking horse, this bloke is certainly up to this grade. He has placed 4th at his past two starts, both over this trip at this track, latest when last of 13 for home and beaten 2 lengths by Behemoth. Needs luck as he gets a long way back but is super fit now and can really muster late.
T: Grant & Alana Williams / J: William Pike (57kg)
Is an extremely good sprinter who is lightly raced but highly gifted. Is another who will have to drift back from this poor gate but he can sustain a great finishing burst. was runner-up in the Gr 1 Caulfield Guineas over 1600m last prep, then backed it up with a superb 2nd in the $5million All Star Mile. Not far away when resuming over 1100m and much more suited to this.
T: Team McEvoy/ J: Luke Nolen (56.5kg)
Smart sprinter who has Gr 1 form but is traditionally a sit just off the pace type who comes home well. Last start he was sent to the front in the Gr 2 Bobby Lewis and was still boxing away when 5th. This is harder and there will be a lot of pace early.
T: Chris Waller / J: Ben Melham (56kg)
Good run last start when resuming over 1200m making a lot of ground late for 6th, but it was in an easier race. Saying that, she has Gr 1 form and could be worth noting that the last time she ran 1400m, she clocked 1:20:45. That would win this.
T: Scott Brunton / J: Craig Newitt (56kg)
A smart horse on his day and already the winner of 12 races, many at stakes level in Tasmania. Carried big weight when battling away for 5th when resuming at the ‘alley over 1200m. Boasts an incredible record this trip though and has drawn perfectly. Could surprise at big odds.
T: Lindsey Smith / J: Dean Yendall (56kg)
What I like about this bloke is that he can run on and is pretty fit. What I dont like is that at Gr 1 level he will struggle.
T: Lindsey Smith / J: Jamie Mott (55.5kg)
Couldn’t win the Swan Hill Cup last campaign weakening to 3rd and his only start this time up he ran last over 1200m. Not keen.
T: Matt Ellerton & Simon Zahra / J: Damian Lane (55.5kg)
Smart, consistent sprinter on his day and being lightly raced he rates a good show. He is very fit and boasts Gr 1 form. Loves this journey and good 3rd last start to Showmanship giving him 4kg suggests he’s ready to rumble.
T: Jim Conlan / J: Billy Egan (54.5kg)
Formerly raced as Debt Collector and has won $3million in stakes but is a light of other days now.
T: Team McEvoy / J: Luke Currie (54.5kg)
Is a pretty strong mare and may surprise a few here. Has twice won at Gr 2 level and last start was one of them, over this trip coming from 8th at bend. Is fitter now and has won at this track. Have in your numbers.
T: James Cummings / J: –
Very smart and would be hard to beat but likely to be scratched.
T: Trent Busuttin & Nat Young / J: Michael Walker (54kg)
Outstanding 3YO who is a Gr 1 winner at this track and the epitome of consistency. Always hits the line hard. Fitter following a good run to place when resuming. Hard task here but he’ll be a little better than midfield with cover and bound to be running on. Respect.
T: Danny O’Brien / J: Jye McNeil (54kg)
More than handy type who is very consistent. On the quick back-up here after being beaten a nostril in the Gr 3 Bobby Lewis over 1200m last start. Will appreciate the draw here and will be on speed all the way. Has place claims.
T: Michael Moroney / J: Michael Dee (54kg)
New Zealander who is resuming here. was rated among the best in the land over this trip and last campaign was multiple Gr 1 placed. Watch betting on his hopes here first up.
T: Team Snowden / J: – (54kg)
Smart Sydney sprinter who did score a gutsy win here this trip last start in Open grade. Time was slow and this should test.
T: Logan McGill / J: – (54kg)
Quality sprinter and winner 11 times but always in much easier races. This should test.
T: Team Corstons / J: – (54kg)
Very fast and provably charges to the lead here but there are other speedsters in it that will not let him settle and as such, he will wilt late.
