T: Darren Mcauliffe / J: Mitch Pateman (58kg)
What a tough, durable, honest guy this bloke is. He came to Victoria and at $101 scored at Gr 1 level. Subsequently beaten twice since so returned home to just miss in the crucial Gr 2 lead-up to this behind Star Exhibit. Looks perfectly placed and the gate will help as he’ll sit in about 4th to the bend.
T: James Cummings / J: Brad Rawiller (57.5kg)
This is a serious racehorse. And he’s ready to win. Probably drops back looking for cover early from this gate but he is a quality miler and he will be storming home late.
T: Adam Durrant / J: Peter Hall (56.5kg)
Has become a major player in these races especially when fresh. Resumed from a spell and at $41 knocked over Gatting and The Velvet King last start. has a great 2nd up record too. Respect him.
T: Simon Miller/J:Damien Oliver (55.5kg)
Sat a mile back in the Gr 3 Northerly and charged home late to fail by a whisker behind The Velvet King. Then last start went hard early and was on speed all the way when beaten a length in the Lee Steere behind Star Exhibit. That run topped him off very nicely for this and if he can slot in he’s a player. Big show.
T: Lindsey Smith / J: Dean Yendall (53kg)
Is a very good galloper coming right at the exact time he needs to. On pace all way when narrow Gr 3 winner at Flemington last start over 1400m. Is better suited this journey too. Big show.
T: Darren Macauliffe / J: Chris Parnham (53kg)
Very honest, consistent galloper. He won his first look at Black Type when on speed all way and a tad too strong for Achernar Star in the 1400m Northey then tried to do same when beaten half a length last start in the Lee Steere by Star Exhibit and Gatting. Drawn well but final 100m is the worry.
T: Grant & Alana Williams / J: Brenton Avdulla (53kg)
Good, honest galloper who excels this trip. Has come via a different route to all of these winning past two starts out of town but at stakes level. May find it tough over the last 100m but he has wheels.
T: Stephen Miller / J: Brad Parnham (53kg)
Good horse who has won up to 2000m. Consistent stakes placegetter before heading east and runner up at Caulfield in Gr 3 over 1400m. Sits back in 2nd half of field but can come home.
T: Fred Kersley / J: Jerry Noske (53kg)
This is a good mare, a really good mare and she is 3rd up here. has won up to 2000m and races against these boys all the time. Might just be a length behind them again at the end though.
T: Adam Durrant / J: Jade McNaught (53kg)
Solid straying mare getting readied for the Perth Cup. Saying that, however, she can run on very strongly at this level on her day and that last start 3rd in the 1400m Asian Beau at Gr 3 level was big effort behind Samizdat and Regal Power.
T: Grant & Alana Williams / J: Willy Pike (53kg)
What a pity he has drawn so wide. This is an extra smart galloper going places. It may be that he drops out here but if he obtains clear air in the straight he has finishing power. Is the reigning WATC Derby winner.
T: Chris Gangemi / J: Jarrad Noske (53kg)
So hard to beat based on terrific win against a few of these last start in the Gr 3 Asian Beau. Is a get back and charge home type who is yet to race this trip but gives the impression he’ll handle it.
T: Neville Parnham / J: Steven Parnham (53kg)
Is a very handy galloper who may have to work a bit from this draw early. He is racing in career-best form this time up and made ground late to grab 2nd at Gr 3 level over 1500m last start. This is tougher though.
T: Lindsey Smith / J: Peter Knuckey (53kg)
Nice horse who gets in here with no weight. Made a good impression with solid 3rd last week in the Gr 3 behind Mississippi Delta and Platoon. That might be a length or so behind the best here.
