T: James Cummings / J: Hugh Bowman (59kg)
Grand old 9 years young campaigner this grade and goes particularly well this trip. He has excellent stats at WFA level and he is going to be right in this. was beaten less than a length in the Gr Turnbull this trip behind Kings Will Dream. Then was deep and ran a courageous 7th, finishing the race off in the Gr 1 Caulfield Cup. Retires at the end of this race and it would be such a wonderful story to see him bow out a winner.
T: Matty Williams / J: John Allen (59kg)
Gr 1 winner and a natural-born front-runner. Will drive to the front but at 9 years of age isn’t the same force he once was. If he’s left alone and can kick on the bend, he’s a chance at big odds.
T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace/ J: Damian Lane (59kg)
Is outstanding on his day. But has been out of form for a while. Saying that, 2 starts back he started to look like himself at this level when 5th. But was just ridden so poorly last start when 4th, hitting line hard. This is harder but he has class on his day.
T: Jim Conlan / J: Michael Rodd (59kg)
Interesting galloper. Has carved out quite the reputation in Singapore. last start he made impressive ground late to finish 7th, beaten a length, in the Gr 2 Crystal mile. This is harder but he can place at massive odds.
T: Mitsuru Hashida / J: Michael Dee (59kg)
Old stager here from Japan where he has won over $2m. We know Japanese horses do well here but his 8th at Aussie debut behind Cape Of Good Hope was only average. Not keen.
T: Tomokazu Takano / J: Kerrin McEvoy (59kg)
Is Gr 1 placed. And can run this trip in fast time. was with the pace-setters in the Gr 1 Cox Plate last start until they swung then just folded like a deck of cards finishing 13th. Can’t win this off that run but should improve now that he’s a bit fitter.
T: Team Hayes & Dabernig / J: Jamie Kah (59kg)
Good stayer on his day. Will be around $51 but deserves to be shorter as he is a main player here. Off this good draw, he probably hunts up to follow Gailo Chop. He loves this track and he is very fit. Finished mid-field in recent Cox plate. Don’t dismiss.
T: Chris Waller / J: James McDonald (59kg)
Honest as the day is long. Will be right in this finish because of 3 factors. Firstly, he loves this track. Runs his best races here. Secondly, he is very fit now. Thirdly, he has talent, winning the Gr 1 Turnbull this trip and track before a strong 6th after being wide in the Cox Plate. Respect him.
T: Chris Waller / J: Nash Rawiller (59kg)
Hasn’t won for a while but gets home hard. Placed twice a stakes level in Sydney before coming to Melbourne and running a solid 7th in the Gr 1 Cantala Stakes here over a mile last week. Place show.
T: Team Hayes & Dabernig / J: Luke Nolen (59kg)
He is just $600 away from becoming a million-dollar stakes earner. has won this track and nearly did again last week when he dashed from last on the bend to reach the lead near home in the Gr 1 Cantala Stakes over a mile. The trip here at WFA level is his biggest worry.
T: Team Hayes & Dabernig / J: Jye McNeil (59kg)
Is really fit and is ready for this challenge. Finished 8th in a very strong Gr 1 Epsom this year making ground late, then flashed home at $11 when beaten a whisker in the Gr 1 Cantala over a mile here last week. Racing well enough.
T: Chris Waller / J: Damien Oliver (59kg)
Grand galloper up to this journey and is in form. Ran home very powerfully when close 2nd in the recent Gr 1 Toorak Hcp over a mile. Then backed up and was strong late again when 3 lengths back last weekend in the Cantala also at Gr 1. Has been racing as if this trip suits him.
T: Team Hayes & Dabernig / J: Mark Zahra (57.5kg)
Gr 1 winner of the Caulfield Stakes in quick time this trip. Then inglorious effort when fading 10th in useful time, beaten over 8 lengths in the Cox Plate. On that run, he can’t win. On the previous run, he is a major player.
T: Aidan O’Brien / J: Ryan Moore (57kg)
Is outstanding on her day. Has broken 2 mins for this journey and no other horse here can boast that. Led and held on well when fighting 4th in the Cox Plate two starts back. Trapped wide and rearward all the way in the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday and was 10th. This is much, much more to her liking and rates extremely highly.
T: Jamie Richards / J: Opie Bosson (57kg)
Champion New Zealand mare. Loves the sting out of the ground too and probably gets that here. Has won 10 x Gr 1 races. Came from near last in impressively and easily win the Gr 1 Empire Rose against own sex last start. Certainly looks the testing material here.
T: Matty Ellerton & Simon Zahra / J: Craig Williams (56.5kg)
On speed all the way and burst clear looking the winner until Kiwi champ Melody Belle ran her down at Gr 1 level last start. This is harder but has won up to 2500m so rates a show.
T: Chris Waller/ J: Dwayne Dunn (59kg)
Good mare who is engaged in another race that she can nearly win. If she starts here she looks safely held on recent average form.
T: Kylie Vella / J: Craig Williams (59kg)
A tough as teak 7YO racing in career-best form winning past 4 races on the bounce. But all were in much weaker grade. Not keen.
