T: Dave Vandyke / J: Ryan Maloney (56.5kg)
Champion 3YO. Bonafide superstar who can do it both ends – lead or sit and still win. Has won 9 of his 10 starts and led all the way to win the Gr 2 last start beating his rivals here Catalyst, Chenier, Soul Patch and Dalasan. Why can’t he win again? Well, his only defeat was at this trip. But he went under by a nose to Super Seth who may be the best 3YO in the southern hemisphere, that day. Big danger.
T: Leon McDonald & Ant Gluyas / J: Jamie Kah (56.5kg)
This is an outstanding colt who has won 5 of his 10 career starts. BUT….he has raced Alligator Blood 3 times now and has never beaten him. Last start he was just over 3 lengths behind him at the end of the 1400m Gr 2. Is better at this trip but really only looks a place hope.
T: Mick Moroney / J: Micky Dee (56.5kg)
This is the dark horse. His biggest worry is the trip. He’s yet to run at this trip. But he sat wide and still accelerated away to win his debut Gr 1 race against the older horses in the Gr 1 Orr Stakes last start. And ran time. Is super fit now and he might just run over the top of the favoured pair.
T: Clyde Chippendale / J: Damian Lane (56.5kg)
Two things in this bloke’s favour. Firstly, he is a 1600m specialist, winning his only start at the trip and winning it easily. The other thing is he is now acclimatized to Aussie weather, conditions etc. Perhaps a 3rd is that he meets Alligator Blood 1kg better for losing by a head. Is a superstar from New Zealand and has the perfect draw. Loomed to win last start by Alligator Blood repelled him. Just a great coup having him in this field.
T: Kevin Keys / J: Craig Williams (56.5kg)
This is an extremely good racehorse. And he is unbeaten second up. Which he is here. Recorded amazing last 600m sectionals when resuming behind Alligator Blood and Catalyst in the Gr 2 last start. Finished 4th but he stamped himself as a star of the future. If he improves, and if they go hard as expected, he will swamp these late.
T: Grant & Alana Williams / J: Willy Pike (56.5kg)
Fascinating galloper on many levels. Should have won the Gr 2 WA Guineas over this trip when held up badly on the inside. Then was close up 4th in open Gr 1 last campaign. Resumed from a spell and was absolutely breathtaking in his dominance over 1500m running time too. This is panels of the fence harder but is clearly a gifted galloper.
T: Anthony Freedman / J: Damien Oliver (56.5kg)
What do we make of this bloke? He’s had just 3 starts but looks a superstar in waiting. Finished 3rd behind Alligator Blood and Catalyst in the Gr 2 last start when resuming form a 10 months spell. Ran amazing last 400m sectionals. Now, did he leave everything on the track that day? This will tell but his mum is by Zabeel so you know he’ll get the trip. Might just be an out and out, superstar. Respect.
T: Mark Sues / J: Ethan Brown (56.5kg)
Maiden galloper from 3 starts. Has ability but not at stakes level. Will get thrashed and should run last.
