T: Chris Waller / J: Damian Lane (59kg)
This is a very, very good stayer at this track. He won this race two years ago and he is back racing in terrific fashion. His 4th first up suggests he is back in form and loves this journey. Certain to be making a charge late.
T: Tom Dabernig & Ben Hayes / J: Michael Walker (59kg)
Grand old stager who retires after this race. Has loved racing here and in this race having won it twice before. Form is Ok for him but he may be just saying good bye.
T: Tom Dabernig & Ben Hayes / J: John Allen (59kg)
This is the horse to beat. And he is also the defending champion. Loves this course. Just seems to reserve all his best runs for here and gobbles up this trip. Is 3rd up into this after a terrific 2nd in the Gr 2 Blamey here over a mile last start. Loves it wet and can sprint home hard if dry. Looks the one to beat. Will test these.
T: Team Freedman / J: Jye McNeil (59kg)
Smart stayer when right and generally likes to make the pace. Resumed from a spell and led until well into the straight before the in form Paradee and rival Shared Ambition nabbed him late. Fitter for that run and if left alone will give a ton of cheek.
T: Team Freedman/ J: Damien Oliver (59kg)
Good stayer on his day and suited this track where he has won at Gr 1 level. Resumes here and will be spotting them all a good start as they swing. Can finish off. Not raced since his 12th in the Melbourne Cup. Place show.
T: Team Hawkes / J: Willy Pike (59kg)
Interesting galloper. Has the ability to lead and has won at Gr 1 level when leading. Recently he has been tried as a back marker and he should be very fit and ready to run a blinder here. Led and grabbed on the line in the Gr 1 Metrop last year. Have in your numbers.
T: James Cummings / J: Luke Nolen (59kg)
Good galloper on his day and is ra ing in great form. Resumes over 1600m in Gr 3 Carlyon Cup and easily beat rivals Miss Siska and Nonconformist, then last start, after being a little wide hit the front in straight before being swamped late in the Gr 2 Blamey when 4th. Has to be considered strongly.
T: Team Freedman / J: Jamie Kah (59kg)
Solid stayer who goes very well at this track. Resumed for his first start since the Melbourne Cup when a really strong 4th to rivals Paradee, Shared Ambition and Homesman. Should benefit the most from that outing and has strong claims.
T: Michael Moroney/ J: Dan Stackhouse (59kg)
Strong stayer who always runs boldly. Not sure he is a WFA horse though. Resumed from spell with solid 7th beaten 1.4lengths in the Gr 2 behind Paradee and company. Not keen.
T: Neville Parnham/ J: Brad Parnham (59kg)
Super good galloper from WA. Is extremely versatile. Won first up in 1;09 for 1200m and has placed in staying Group events. This is very hard but 3rd up he might place at big odds.
T: Chris Waller / J: Mark Zahra (59kg)
Very strong NSW galloper who won over a mile when resuming then caught the eye with really solid late burst when closing 2nd to Paradee over 1800m in Gr 2 last start. Is 3rd up here, loves this journey and has won at the track. Sure to be running on.
T: Patrick Payne / J: Billy Egan (59kg)
Is getting better with every start and will test these. This is his hardest assignment to date but has won, catching the eye each time, at his past four runs. Won the Listed Lord Stakes running past Paradee and has just learned how to do it. Looms as a major threat.
T: Matt Cumani/ J: Dean Yendall (59kg)
Overseas galloper who is getting better with every Aussie run. Ran lights out 2nd with a big weight when resuming. If he has derived benefit from that run he will take a hand in this finish. Have in your numbers.
T: Grahame Begg/ J: Luke Currie (59kg)
Is ready to run boldly but the rise in grade is a worry. Should sit just behind the pace and is 3rd up. Place show.
T: Danny O’Brien / J: Daniel Moor (57kg)
Can win. Is capable of just going bang when everything goes the right way for her. Is a Gr 1 winner here already.
T: Matthew Smith/ J: Michael Dee (57kg)
Good mare and is a sound handicapper but this level will test.
T: Danny O’Brien / J: Craig Williams (57kg)
Is just about the most improved galloper in the land. She just keeps jumping the bar raised and wins and wins and wins. This at WFA Gr 1 level is as hard as it gets but no surprise to see her salute.
