Form analyst, SCOTT MCDONELL, previews Saturday’s Doomben meeting, with horse racing tips and analysis for all 9 races on the card. Good luck, punters!

Track Condition: Soft 5

Rail Position: Out 4.5m, entire circuit

ONE SHY RUBY looks a promising daughter of Rubick. Broke her maiden with an emphatic win at Sunshine Coast two starts back then she may have hit the front a stride too early in the Listed Dalrello and claimed late. Only needs to hold that form to get away with this.

BELLISSIMI AMICI is the query resuming from spell. She was competitive in all races last preparation. Should get a nice run in behind the early speed here and with a touch of luck from the corner will give this a scare late.

QUEEN SWEEPER just did not relax well enough in the Dalrello but it did not stop her grinding away final stages and she was beaten less than a length. Has had the benefit of two runs back fro spell and she should be primed for this.

DARK SON never looked happy around the tight Ipswich track last start and had to cover extra ground. His previous form around Toowoomba was super and expect he will improve on a bigger track here.

Tip: ONE SHY RUBY

Not big field here but it is a very competitive race and hard to line a few of them up.

CELLARMAID deserves a win this prep. Got well back in the G2 Roses last start but when she knuckled down from the corner she finished off solidly to pick off all but one. This is a not an easy assignment but she will go close.

LANDO BAY brings some exciting form up north. Working through his grades with authority and last start finished too well to win at Randwick. The extra 200m looks ideal and would be no surprise to see him make it three straight.

WAPITI relished the heavy track to win at Gold Coast two starts back then he started favourite at Eagle Farm last start and just missed in a blanket finish. He will get al the favours from his inside gate and sure to be competitive.

MAN OF SINN is another promising three year old. Made some good late ground in the G3 Rough Habit when finished just out of placings. Finds a similar task here and can sneak into a placing.

Tip: CELLARMAID

Forget where LASHES finished at Rosehill last start. Never on the track at any stage and entitled to weaken final stages. Not beaten all that far when placed fresh and third-up from spell here looks ready to find best form. Can win this.

DOCTOR ZOUS was brave after racing up on the speed here first-up. Strips fitter second-up from spell and expect he will be in this for a long way. He looks the danger to the favourite.

The big query is PHOBETOR making his return to racing. Looked forward enough when placed in most recent trial and if there is any support fro the stable would follow.

Liked run of SPIRIT’S CHOICE first-up from spell was better than her finishing position suggest as she just raced bit keenly before holding ground late. She was not beaten all that far and sure to be better from the outing.

Tip: LASHES

SCATHING strung together two straight wins to begin this prep. He has been competitive in two Group 3 races leading into this and he gets back in a winnable race. Needs a touch of luck from awkward gate but happy to put him on top here.

SEA RAIDER showed a sharp turn-of-hoof to put the race beyond doubt at Gold Coast two back then fronted up on the heavy track last start and again won with something in hand. Comes to town and this is a harder affair but he looks like he can measure up to them.

WANDABAA comes north in exceptional form this time in. Ran home with a slick sectional to win at Kensington first-up then followed up with a similar eye catching burst to win at Randwick. She has drawn to get perfect run and will be hard to beat again.

VINCO has found a purple patch of form since getting back to this distance with two strong wins. Has the speed to use his inside gate and hold a forward position and should make his own luck.

Tip: SCATHING

Liked the acceleration of LE JUGE when he powered away to win the G3 Chairman’s two starts back. Just got fraction too far back last start but still made good late ground and was just out of placings. Expect a solidly run affair here and he can bounce back to winners stall

Been a while since LA PULGA has run a bad race. Another who just got too far back in second half at Eagle Farm but his last 200m back on fence was sound. Gets back out to his right distance range and would not leave out of winning chances.

ANOTHER DOLLAR started favourite in the G3  Tattersalls Cup last start but rider elected to go back from wide gate and they did not run it fast enough for her to get into the race. Drawn perfectly and can bounce back.

ALWARD finally got out to his right distance range in the Chairman’s and he got within 2 lengths of winner final stages. Rock hard fit for this and he cannot be left out of multiples.

Tip: LE JUGE

Once THY KINGDOM COME found an opening at Eagle Farm he drove through and got up for well deserved win. Plenty of speed for him to follow again and with an ounce of luck from the corner he can finish all over them again.

Hard to leave SOXAGON out of winning chances. Should work across and either lead or take a nice sit in behind the pace. If he can get a breather before the corner he may steal this soon after straightening.

THE PINES would not mind if there was a touch of rain about to soften the surface. Made good ground when placed at Sunshine Coast two starts back then just did not stretch out late last start. Plenty of speed for her here and she will be hitting the line hard.

The apprentice on UNCONDITIONAL may have to be a genius as he has drawn closer to the car park than he has the rail but this horse is flying with two strong wins leading into this and if he can get that ounce of luck early can figure.

Tip: THY KINGDOM COME

Impressed with the way SCALLOPINI hit the line to win here fresh then he went to Eagle Farm and just got too far off them only running into minor placing late. Gets out to the 1350m third-up from spell and he can return to winners stall in this field.

SOXAGON should come across from his wide gate and lead these. May get a couple of cheap sectionals in the middle stages and if he can sneak a couple of lengths on them before the corner will take some catching.

Be interesting to see whether they ride INQUIRY aggressively and give Soxagon a little test up front early. Seems to run his best races when he is able to roll along in front and if he gets the favours early is sure to be in this for a long way.

CHAPTER AND VERSE comes into this third-up from spell. Liked the way he chased home when on placegetters heels at Eagle Farm last start and the step out to this distance range will suit.

Tip: SCALLOPINI

Very even Group 3 affair for the ladies.

I am a big fan of SURE KNEE and have been for a while. She was good out to the 1500m when placed two starts back then although not suited back in distance last start she was doing best work late from the back. Gets out to right trip and this looks a winnable race for one of my favourite mares.

KRONE was unlucky not to have finished in the placings in the G2 Dane Ripper. Made good late ground when held-up final stages and that cost her finishing a touch closer. Ready for the extra distance and would not be surprised to see her in finish.

Not sure SHUHOOD really ran out a strong 1800m at Group 2 level last start but she was till competitive. Beaten just on 2 lengths in the Listed Pam O’Neill here two starts back and if she can reproduce that form will be a factor.

The run of BACCARAT BABY was massive in the Dane Ripper as she was always wide but kept digging deep last 200m and was less than 2 lengths off winner. Drawn awkwardly again but if she can get a better run in transit can figure in finish.

Tip: SURE KNEE

PINNACLE STAR has been a little bit costly for his supporters when sent out favourite in both starts this campaign. Did get held-up for a couple of strides at Eagle Farm last start and that arguably cost him a win. Finds a similar task here and third-up from spell looks tough to beat.

ORIENTAL RUNNER makes his debut in new stable (ex: John Smerdon). Raced on the speed to win at Gold Coast two starts back then just could not run down leaders when short priced favourite here last start. Looks well in with the benefit of apprentice claim and he will be in finish.

LOVE SQUIRRELS was super late here first-up Sure to strip fitter from that outing and the extra 100m could be the winning move for her.

UNCONDITIONAL deserves his chance at this level after good strong wins at last couple. Gets some nice weight relief with apprentice claim and from inside gate he should get all the favours and have last crack at these.
