Form student, RIC CHAPMAN, previews Saturday’s Caulfield meeting, with horse racing tips and analysis for all nine races on the card. Good luck, punters!
Rail Position: Out 10m, entire circuit
Track Condition: Soft 5
This Tasmanian EASTENDER is carving out quite the staying name for himself. He’s won his past 5 on the bounce, including the 2 biggest Cups in Tassy and has won 6 of his past 7 starts. Lumped 65kg to win first up in Open grade last start. Is looming as a Spring Cups lightweight chance so should really test these. He’ll get a workout from KILLARNEY KID who comes in extremely well at the weights. Has won past 2 this grade and is 4th up so is rock hard fit. TRANSACT is a front runner who led all way to win the St Leger last start and therefore is fast and fit and suited this journey. Good race. Rates highly also.
BRYAN was run off his feet tougher grade last start when resuming. Gets the benefit of a 3kg allowance and was very strong when last in work. WILLIAM THOMAS was placed in good company when 2nd up last time in. Resumed with a good 4th recently and is 2nd up here. DELVECCHIO is lightly raced and up a long way in class but went home well for 3rd to a subsequent city winner last start when resuming with huge weight. Fitter now and lighter weight appeals.
ZOUTORI is simply flying right now and the 60kg probably won’t even stop him. Won past 2 starts in stylish fashion similar grade. ORCEIN is down from Sydney and showed up well last start coming home hard in Melbourne. Drawn the fence and will fly late again. I’M DUN DREAMIN’ is bred to be good and bred to be a good stayer. Resumes here but may have a lot of talent.
Interesting race here. KEMONO is smart, well we all think he is and he is supposed to be winning these races. But he’s always finishing on nicely to grab 3rd and 4th. Drawn the fence here and has a big weight but on his overall record, he is by far the best horse. One last chance. LIAPARI hits the line strongly and was a game 2nd this very grade last start. Which was best run for a while. Chance, and GUIZOT is always a threat too. Won well last start and this is a little stronger but is honest.
Good race. SWIFT SIS won a pair of Flemington sprints in March, against similar company by settling early then charging late. Then sent up to stakes grade last start and the charge late didn’t come. Back against own sex here and should flash home. KYZAMBA is pretty consistent and last start when resuming was fresh and fiery and ran a good 2nd. Chance here while JOSEPHINE SEA has the coveted rails draw and has been racing very well in slightly easier races of late.
Tip: SWIFT SIS
Fascinating stakes race for the babies. MOLDOVA is the flying machine who has led every step of the way to win both starts to date, latest at Flemington in thi company showing tremendous ability. And has a great draw, plus advantaged by the set weights. MISHE MOKWA, on the other hand, drops back and charges home. Won doing that at the provincials then ran very fast late sectionals to place in the Showdown here 2 weeks ago. Is even fitter now. HILO has drawn well and is nicely bred, being a Godolphin baby and MEMPHIS ROCK is tough, durable, reliable and will be in this finish too.
Tip: MISHE MOKWA
The very well bred NOTATION resumes here and should make her presence felt. She tends to go hard early and hang on. Being fresh with a 2kg allowance means she looks well in today. IRRESISTIBLE GIRL has talent too and resumed with a handy 6th similar race last start. Fitter now. THE COMMONER is interesting. She’s had just one run but won it by leading all the way and was nearly 4 lengths clear at the end. Harder here but has obvious talent.
He’s getting on a bit but JUNGLE EDGE looks nicely placed here. With the 3kg claim he is in very well at the weights. The sting out of the ground will be a HUGE help as he will jump and go hard to lead and he has the guts to keep going. FIRSTHAND generally puts in first up and he too is suited this weaker grade. Should make a race of it while LEONARDO DA HINCHI is being prepped for an assault on the Gr 1 Stradbroke. He won a jump out recently by showing blistering pace and is a very, very classy 3YO who is weighted to win.
Tip: LEONARDO DE HINCHI
Strong race to end the day. It seems every time THINK BLEUE is dropped back into this grade she runs really, really well. Failed when stepped up to stakes level last time, and so gets a great draw here and a 3kg allowance here in a weaker race. Looms very large. JESTER HALO is pretty quick and connections would have been doing cartwheels when she came up with the inside gate. Will lead for quite some time. WINKELMANN is 3rd up now and at a trip she will love. Bound to be dashing home hard.
