Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, previews Wednesday’s Canterbury meeting, with horse racing tips and analysis for all 8 races. Good luck, punters!

Track Condition: Soft 5

Rail Position: True, entire circuit

YANGTZE RAPIDS has his foot on the till and pretty much everything points to a win here. Drawn well enough, suited by the trip, unlucky 2nd last start and is 2nd up. Big, big show.

And his stablemates APOLLATE who is also in great form and RAPIDS who at 4th up is now very fit. They will make charges and give Chris Waller a big opportunity to trifecta the race. All looks perfectly placed.

Lots of chances here. CIVIL WAR will improve on debut 6th in a very similar race where beaten just on a length. Has to strip fitter too so top hope.

PORT LOUIS might be pretty handy. Made good ground late on debut in this class at Kensington to grab 3rd. Was in front two strides past the post. Drawn the fence and should be rattling home here.

BILLIONDOLLARBABY is beautifully bred and is highly gifted. Yet to race but won past two trials in great style. Big chance.  Terrific contest.

Toppie here EL BUENA faces a task here first up with no claim as this is a potentially strong field. A couple of these may well kick on in life. But he did show power last campaign and Hughie wouldn’t ride for no reason.

Similar story re ONCHAO. He put two rather impressive wins on the trot before he spelled. And he is in the Mark Newnham stable, a camp known for winning races first up. Big show.

SIEGE might be very good. One start to date and she handled her rival here Zain’s Girl rather comfortably and that horse has since won. Drawn the fence and has been backed overnight. Much fitter now so looms large.

Tough race here with a few hopes. SNIPPY FOX resumes in this but left racing with a gutsy win suggesting that when she returned she might be even better. Tough ask first up but trials have been very sound.

Overlook the poor effort of FASHCHANEL last start when she finished behind the pack. Her two previous runs in similar races to this were first rate finishing 2nd on both occasions and can bounce back.

This mare GRANDE RUMORE is the most fascinating runner all day. Firstly, the fact she is a European mare import, and secondly because she seems to have found a home in Australia based on her trials. Watch the market for her debut Aussie run.

Good race. There are 11 runners and 10 of them could win this. So bet sparingly. JAILBREAK gets a welcome claim here and he will be on speed all the way. Is in career best form winning a midweek two starts back and a fine 3rd in a. Try Champ heat under 59kg when trying to lead all the way. Strong claims.

NERONE won brilliantly when resuming last start and in a similar race. Likes it a little damp which he gets here.  Also likes to sit off the pace and come home hard.

GHOSTLY hasn’t won for a while but is always around the traps and did run a bold 3rd last start in similar grade. 2nd up now so is fitter..

This mare FOXBOROUGH must be hardy as she goes around for her connections every 2nd week and just keeps putting in. The 3kg claim helps her a great deal here. Certainly is capable of beating these as she did two starts back.

MR GEE resumes here but has been backed overnight and did win two in a row when last in work. Respect all that. Bound to be running on.

NICCI’S FLING is up a little in grade but is so honest and is 5th up here. Placed a few times so deserves a win. Has claims.

This does look like a nice race for MR DEPENDABLE. Primarily opposed to stayers here he should roll to the lead and just sit up cruising along. He will take off at the 600m and if he pinches two lengths by the bend, they won’t be able to run hime down.

SAIGON is a strong, reliable honest mare and goes well this trip. Probably settles about 4th and being 2nd up here she will chase him down hard.

Former French galloper LACKEEN has done nothing in two starts in Australia to date but gets right down in the weights here and must be fitter. Can run on. Big danger.

LOST AND RUNNING will be all the rage and should win. Unbeaten in 4 starts to date and has been touted a stakes horse in the making.

BEAU IDEAL resumes here and as such being fresh will be handy to the speed all the way. has talent.

MARWAY looks the likely pilot and he is flourishing under Mark Newnham’s care. Bad gate so he will slingshot out of the gates in order to gather speed and get across.
