Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, previews Wednesday’s Canterbury meeting, with horse racing tips & analysis for all seven races on the card. Good luck, punters!
Rail Position: True, entire circuit
Track Condition: Good 4
Can Chris Waller quinella this? Maybe. His galloper LEWIS is racing for the 2nd time and his debut run when 5th was full of merit. Made ground late. Will appreciate everything about this race. Stablemate WAY BACK WHEN, similarly, hasn’t been far away at his 2 starts to date. Will sit in the one, one and come hard late. PARCHE made up enormous ground on debut this grade over 1300m when 4th. She should improve from that and the extra trip helps.
This looks even also and full of depth. MISS SCORCHER continues to carry weight and win. She is as tough as old boots and as game as Ned Kelly and more importantly is in form. Has won 2 of 3 stars this campaign. DANCE HALL GIRL is pretty handy too. Won mdn in good style, then spelled. Last start when resuming hit the line hard for another win. Big show. OUR REVENUE is an honest mare from Canberra and she can run on. Has no weight here.
Tip: MISS SCORCHER
PAPAL WARRIOR is a big, well-bred colt who has placed 2 of 3 starts this grade to date. Can get up on the pace and is expected to run boldly in this. Resumes here but won a recent trial in fine style. Can atone. BOLLYWOOD is a really nice, compact, fast filly who deserves a breakthrough. Has raced 6 times at this level and placed in 5 of them including last start when sitting off pace and rushing late here over 1200m. Big show. ASTRALIS was game 4th on debut. Should improve a lot for this.
A very even affair. BOMBARDING is pretty fast and carried 61.5kg last start until the shadows of the post in slightly weaker grade. That was 2nd start this time up so you’d expect him to be fitter now. Will take catching as he’s won 2nd up before and has won at this track. EL MO resumes here but has a touch of class. Did win first-up last campaign and is on track for the $1million Kosciusko. Also goes fast early so might be in a battle for the lead. But, he can sit if needs be. KYLEASE resumes here and did string 3 in a row together when last in work, plus recent trial was great.
Tip: EL MO
DIO D’ORO for Gary Portelli is a smart horse but he just seems to find this weight in this grade a tad beyond him. Got too far back in BM 70 last start when a closing 6th over 1200m. Is fitter now and if he can sit a pair closer he could sneak into a place. EVER SO NATURAL has for a long time been a solid campaigner in this grade. Is 3rd up here after a game, and strong 3rd last start. Big show. ERNO is smart but we aren’t sure just how smart. He’s only had 4 starts and was on pace in BM70 all the way when beaten a nostril first-up last start. Will be on speed and should be fitter.
RAPIDO CHAPARRO is yet another tough, on-pace runner from Tulloch Lodge. That means he will drive forward and be the leader. Will he keep going? Who knows. he was a strong 2nd last start when challenged most of the way. FAST TRAIN is up in class but is also in form. Sure to be running on. ACHONDRITE is also up in grade but has placed at past two runs and is super fit now. Will be in the box seat all the way. Chance again.
THE BALD EAGLE looks well placed. He led all way to win BM 70 last start and did it comfortably. That was 2nd win from 3 starts this time up. Stable is in immaculate form also. FLYING PIERRO is a stalwart this grade and has had a lot of racing lately. Will get back and run on. OBELOS is 3rd up and showed pace before weakening last start. Fitter so can hang tougher.
