Brilliant galloper. In any era of Australian racing, other than this one, he’d be considered a champion. Just puts in very hard every run. Two starts this time up have been brilliant efforts, particularly last start when he led for the first time in a race then at the halfway point put 9 lengths on the champion Winx. She had to work her butt off to catch him and his brave, brave effort was rewarded with a 2nd placing in extremely fast time. If he has pulled up well from that run, he’s a big player. He’s such a warrior.
T: James Cummings / J: William Buick (59kg)
Superstar racehorse. Back in September, over this trip, he won the Gr 1 Epsom at Randwick in what was the fastest mile ever run at that track….or in NSW for that matter. Since then was spelled and has raced twice this time up. Was beaten 3.6 lengths over 1200m by Alizee. Then was beaten 1 length by her over 1400m. Is better suited to this journey and will shake the life out of this.
T: Justin Warwick / J: Lucy Warwick (59kg)
Genuine Gr 1 galloper back in his homeland of West Australia but in 3 starts in Victoria he has been thrashed. Just doesn’t seem to have come up all that well. Saying that, he is very good normally if ridden up on speed.
T: Mick Price / J: Damien Oliver (59kg)
Gr 1 winner at this track and over this trip too. Has loads of talent when he is on song. Resumed from a spell and carried the grandstand when battling away for 6th in Gr 3 over 1400m here a fortnight ago. Much better off this journey and can sprint home hard when his mind is on job. Is 2nd up here and has won 2nd up in the past.
T: Peter Gelagotis / J: Jack Martin (59kg)
Only chance is if it rains and if it gets heavy, he is a must for your numbers. He’s a swimmer. Last campaign did string 3 wins in a row and goes best this journey. Class behind some of these bonafide Gr 1 runners is the big doubt.
T: Terry Kelly / J: John Allen (59kg)
Is the fairytale horse. Not stated for nearly 2 years and is with a new trainer who bought him for just $8,500 at a tried stock sale last year. Is staring 10 years of age in the face and looks completely tested here but he picks up $90,000 if he finishes the race.
T: Dean Krongold / J: Damien Thornton (59kg)
Has raced this track 4 times prior, all with much less weight than he carries here and ALL in much, much easier grade. Is yet to run a place. No hope.
T: Ryan Balfour / J: Simon Price (59kg)
Has finished next to last at his two Listed grade runs over past 5 months. His last win was this trip but in BM 90 class on a wet track with less weight than he carries here. No.
T: Robbie Griffiths / J: Ben Melham (59kg)
Not the roughest. He gets up on speed and has a brawlers chance of placing because he has won 3 restricted class races this track and loves this trip. Top grade horses here will test him though.
T: Chris Munce / J: Jamie Mott (59kg)
Shouldn’t be in the field. Will get lapped by just about all the others. Beat one home in a Class 6 last start.
T: James Cummings / J: Hugh Bowman (57kg)
This is a superstar race mare. She has won nearly $2million in prizemoney from just 17 runs. Has won past 4 starts, 2 x Gr 1, a Gr 2 and a Listed race. Has beaten Hartnell home at past 2 starts and has won twice at Gr 1 level over this journey. Just needs to get cover and her powerful finishing burst should do the rest. Big show.
T: Team Hayes & Dabernig / J: Mark Zahra (56kg)
Top quality 3YO headed to superstar status. Many are glad he’s in this because he should provide the speed and it will be a genuine clip at that. He led and kicked away to win Gr 2 over 1400m prior to leading and running the gamest of 2nds to Mystic Journey in Gr 1 this trip and track last start. Will be clear for a very long way.
T: Adam Trinder / J: Anthony Darmanin (54kg)
Might be a champion in the making. Just gets up behind the speed and out guts, out kicks everyone she races. Is only a 3YO but her Gr 1 win this track and trip last start when running down Hawkshot was so classy. Might be a prep short of the elite open grade Gr 1 stars, a few of which she faces here, but he tenacity cannot be bridled. Has won 9 of 12 starts, including 6 of past 7 starts. She will make her presence felt.
T: Team Hayes & Dabernig / J: Craig Williams (54kg)
Classy filly. Won a Gr 1 at Caulfield this trip last year. Has won at Gr 3 level this track in quick time and last start finished hard for good 3rd to Mystic Journey and Hawkshot in Gr 1 this journey. Will be thereabouts at the end.
T: Kris Lees / J: – (59kg)
Is a Gr 1 winner over this trip here in Open grade handicap. Is always a threat. If he gets a run he will be in the firing line all the way.
T: Jarrod McLean / J: – (59kg)
Will make it interesting if he gets a start. Is a Gr 1 winner at WFA here over 2000m and likes to lead. So the pace will be a cracker if he runs. Was very game 3rd at Gr 1 level last start.
T: Scott Brunton / J: – (59kg)
On pace classy galloper well up to this. Gave the brilliant Mystic Journey 5.5kg head start two starts back and lost by just half a length. Is very honest and will be right in this if he gains a start.
T: Mike & Luke Cerchi / J: – (59kg)
Is 4th reserve so probably doesn’t start. Was $151 when good finishing 4th in a weak Gr 3 last start. No hope.
