T: James Cummings / J: Craig Williams (59kg)
Grand old campaigner this grade and goes particularly well this trip. Might have to push up from this outside draw which should land him in about 3rd spot all the way. Was strong when resuming this grade when 3rd to Mystic Journey. Only plodded into 4th last start but 3rd up here is fitter and runs well. Is always a big danger these races.
T: Matty Williams / J: Linda Meech (59kg)
Gr 1 winner of a few years ago but is coming back from injury and faces a tough assignment first up. Has the class but prefer to see. Not likely though.
T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace / J: Damian Lane (59kg)
Is outstanding on his day. And he will love this track and trip. Won at this level when 2nd up last campaign. Looked to only plod home first up this time around but is better than that and should drop out then charge late.
T: Lindsey Smith / J: Dean Yendall (59kg)
Is just running the lights out of everything lately. Came with a strong run to win and beat a few of these including Hartnell at Gr 1 level last start in the Memsie Stakes over 1400m. Has won over 2000m so trip is no worry. Is the form horse.
T: Team Hayes & Dabernig / J: Dwayne Dunn (59kg)
This is a terrific campaigner who has speed and that’s an asset here. He no doubts kicks up to find a good spot. Is resuming but was 5th in a Cox Plate and 5th in a Melbourne Cup. Can stay, is fast also, and won a barrier trial recently very impressively. Respect.
T: Darren Mcauliffe / J: Jamie Kah (59kg)
Star galloper from Western Australia who debuts here in the east. Has good form at Gr 1, 2 and 3 level over there and has beaten Scales Of Justice at level weights. But just a cloud over his poor run when beaten out of a place at Belmont last start.
T: Chris Waller / J: Mark Zahra (59kg)
Is very smart when right and his first-up effort, following a horrendous injury several months ago, was terrific. He made ground to run 5th and should be fitter now. At his peak, he would be a major player. Watch betting.
T: Team Hayes & Dabernig / J: Ben Allen (59kg)
Good to smart Gr 2 level stayer but this grade tends to find him out. Is 3rd up here after a couple of useful runs but does look safely held.
T: Liam Howley / J: Ben Melham (59kg)
Star galloper on his day. Has won this trip but is hit and miss. Was easily beaten in Ireland before coming here and strolling in at Caulfield over 2400m and Gr 2 level. Then never a factor in the Melbourne Cup. Should run a decent race and probably finishes about 5th.
T: Chris Wallers / J: Damien Oliver (59kg)
Used to be a smart horse with the potential to be great but hasn’t won for over a year and has been easily beaten in weaker grade of late. Fair 5th when resuming last start, but most of these would have won that race. No.
T: Michael Moroney / J: Jamie Mott (59kg)
Resumes here. Has won this trip and is quality on his day but hasn’t raced well in Australia in 5 starts. Wait until he does.
T: Phillip Stokes / J: John Allen (58.5kg)
It will be very interesting to see how he runs. Thus far, in weaker grade, he has done everything to suggest he is a bona fide star of Aussie racing when at his best. So, resumes here following a Gr 1 win in his age group and has had 2 trials. Has a dynamic finishing kick. Has he grown into his obvious potential? We’ll see here but is suspect he has.
T: Adam Trinder / J: Anthony Darmanin (56.5kg)
Is going to take an enormous amount of beating. She has raced 14 times and won 11 of them for over $3.3million in stakes. Is the heir apparent to the Winx throne and just seems to be a grade above everything else these days. Thrashed Hartnell before a spell, then when resuming, did it again at Gr 2 level. Looks bullet proof.
T: Tony and Calvin McEvoy/ J: Mickey Dee (56.5kg)
Smart mare but just seems to be a length or so behind the Gr 1 level. Nicely drawn but should finish around 6th.
T: Team Hayes & Dabernig / J: Luke Nolen (56.5kg)
Very smart mare, who easily won the Gr 1 Sth Australian Derby before spell. Mr Quickie was a long way behind her that day. Since resumed with a powerful finishing burst to grab 2nd in a weaker race last start. Never won 2nd up before which is a worry but has great talent.
