Racing analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, previews Wednesday’s Cranbourne meeting, with horse racing tips & analysis for all eight races on the card. Good luck, punters!
Rail Position: Out 7m, entire circuit
Track Condition: Soft 5
The two Sydney gallopers ANUBIS and THE LIFELINE appeal most here. The latter will dart to the lead. May have a battle for the front as WILD CHOICE has pace too and was 3rd on debut. So that all means Anubis might finish very strongly. Good race.
ROCK THE DRUM cost $240,000 as a yearling and on debut was a useful, plodding 3rd at Tatura. Then was ordinary when 7th here this grade. Needs to lift but has the trainer, rider, barrier and breeding to suggest he can. HEIR OF FIRE is a nice filly who caught the eye charging into a place from a mile back this grade 2 starts ago with a 4kg kid on top. Fitter now after useful 6th here last start and rates highly. Can place. TROLLEYED hasn’t drawn well but was most impressive on debut making ground to grab 2nd so that makes for a horse with claims.
It’s hard to go past SO HE RULES here. Yes, he is resuming but only run last campaign was in this grade, at this trip and made impressive ground late to be beaten a length. Stronger, older and more mature now. Big show. LA MER CELTIQUE raced at this venue last start and was a battling 3rd this grade over 1500m. Drop in trip makes her a big chance too. HE’S THE REAL DEEL you would assume, would have to have some talent with a name like this. Was running on when 5th on debut. Place.
Tip: SO HE RULES
Toppie CASINO FOURTEEN is 2nd up from a spell in this after an average run last start. Did win a similar race when 2nd up last campaign and looks to finish hard late in this. Has each-way claims. MAKE IT COUNT might spoil the party, however. He’s sat off speed at all of his last 3 starts, then exploded late to win running away. Seems to have the capacity to keep jumping the raised bar and looms large again. MAGNESPRIT has found his level this grade but is consistent so can place.
Tip: MAKE IT COUNT
DENNIS is consistent this level, is strong and very fit. Placed last start and receives a 1.5kg weight allowance which makes him a big player. YULONG STAR is honest and has pace. Resumes here but last campaign won twice so expect bold showing.CAPTAIN’S SON wasn’t too far away in a similar event last start when 5th. Will be big odds but comes into nicely at the weights.
Tip: YULONG STAR
MAY BE FATE had been racing with great gusto this level until stepped up to this trip for the first time last start and after being with pace, weakened badly late. Give one more chance. ROYAL VOLLEY gets a 3kg weight allowance here and that may make the difference. Has been racing well this campaign placing past 2 at this level. SEBEAT is racing in career-best form and should, from this inside draw, be on pace, maybe even leading, there all the way.
Tip: ROYAL VOLLEY
Tough race to find a result. So I’m sticking with recent form. CZECHOSLAVAKIA has placed at past 3 his level, including here last meeting a fortnight back. Poor draw but is strong. MUZZLEFLASH won mdn well then smashed when stepped up in grade and tried to lead all way. This is likely to suit a lot more and has the rails draw. SATURATION is 2nd up here and was a winner last campaign when 2nd up. Will run on.
Not a terribly strong bunch. MUSIC OF THE NIGHT hasn’t won for a long time but is useful and fit enough to be up there all the way in this. KAJAANI, on the other hand, has won through the grades and deserves a crack at this. Finished like a rocket to win over 2000m in weaker race last start but is improving every run. NO EFFORT has found form winning past 2 starts both in easier events. Has speed and should be on the front end most of the way.
