Form analyst, SCOTT MCDONELL, previews Saturday’s Caulfield meeting, with horse racing tips and analysis for all 9 races. Good luck, punters!
Track Condition: Good 4
Rail Position: Out 3m entire circuit
Liked the way that ALBARADO attacked the line when resuming at Mornington first-up from spell. Chased home the impressive Cherry Tortoni second-up at Flemington at first prep. Expect he will strip fitter for this and happy to have something each way.
SUROOJ only just missed first-up at Sandown then never looked settled around the tight Valley circuit. Comes into this third-up from spell and the bigger track will suit her.
THE PRES made good late ground when placed at Flemington two starts back then did not get much luck when wide at Bendigo. If he can find his best he can sneak a place in this.
CELESTIAL SOL was the best from the back when got very close at Moonee Valley last start. Drawn to get an ideal run and if close enough on the corner he can finish all over these.
LEGIONNAIRE made his own luck sitting up in the first couple here last start but just found one better. If Ollie can find some cover from his awkward gate would expect him to be in this for a long way.
GROUNDSWELL resumes from spell. Took on some quality races during the autumn and just battled. He is better than that and can improve this time in.
RIDDLE ME THAT did some work here first-up and thought he was a chance on the turn before fitness told. Better from that outing and he will be a major player final stages.
PROPER ROGUE relished the heavy to win two back then looked unlucky off a tough run at Geelong last start. He can bounce back in this field.
MUNTASEERA was above average in her two year old season. Just did not handle the Sydney way of going or wet tracks when came up for the Golden Slipper. Has the advantage of being around the Caulfield circuit and happy to have something on her fresh but she will be better as her campaign continues.
PEGGY SELENE certainly has to take a big step up here from recent racing but she is a filly in form with two decisive wins leading into this and her race fitness looks an advantage.
FOREVER FREE is an unbeaten filly resuming from spell. Won her only start around Caulfield before going to Adelaide and winning in Listed company. Untapped ability and must respect fresh.
PIONEER RIVER is another first-up for the spring. Flemington winner at only his second start and if forward enough has the ability to give this a shake.
Just how good is the speedy FRONT PAGE I’m not sure any of us know that as yet. Progressed very quickly last prep with what was a dominant Flemington win in Listed company. This is a test first-up but he may just run them off their legs.
OCTANE just keeps measuring up to everything put in front of him. Finished too well for impressive win at Flemington last start and cannot leave him out of this again.
EXCESS FUNDS has won two of his three first-up tries. May have had enough by the time he found heavy ground here before break when disappointing. Drawn to get the ideal run and must include in place chances.
WILLIAM THOMAS always produces something first-up. If leaders begin to paddle final stages he will be the one steaming over them late.
Tip: FRONT PAGE
THOUSAND WISHES comes into this third-up from spell. Just missed in driving finish here last start and although awkwardly drawn she gets her chance to go one better.
FASCINO was beaten just over a length in Group 3 Vanity first-up last time in work. She is a smart mare and could be one at odds to include each way.
PARMIE was luckless at Moonee Valley last start. She covered plenty of extra ground then just missed behind the smart How Womantic. At peak fitness third-up.
RED HEELER is a talented mare resuming from spell. Will be better when she gets over a bit further than this but would not be surprised to see her run a cheeky race fresh.
Tip: THOUSAND WISHES
Like AGREEABLE getting out to the 1400m third-up from spell. Chased home solidly from well back when just missed placing at Moonee Valley last start. Will get back from her wide gate but look for her to be finishing all over these.
SILHOUETTE resumes from spell. She was competitive in all four starts in NSW at first prep. This a step up but stable would not have her here if they did not have an opinion of her.
AIDENSFIELD did it tough at Moonee Valley first-up when always wide but she never stopped coming and was brave second spot. She is going to need some early luck from her wide gate but if she can get some cover can figure late.
THERMOSPHERE just missed in Group 2 company first-up then just got too far back last start and did not finish off. Looking for her to bounce back third-up from spell and must include in multiples.
ORDEROFTHEGATER just did few things wrong here last start but still kept coming and just missed in driving finish. Third-up from spell and from ideal barrier Ollie should get the dream run and have his chance from the corner.
MAHAMEDEIS strung together two solid wins before having a torrid run from the back at Moonee Valley and did not finish race off. Should get the perfect run from inside barrier and he will be a factor late.
KINANE looks like he is ready for the step out to the 2000m. Was grinding home from well back at Randwick last start. Looks well in at the weights and expect him to be steaming home last 200m.
DABIYR has been close-up in both his runs this time in. Ready to find best third-up from spell and from perfect barrier he will be up front for a long way.
BEHEMOTH showed an exciting turn-of-hoof to win the G1 Memsie Stakes here last start. Drawn to get similar run in behind the speed and if he sees clear room from the corner can win again.
CASCADIAN was good late in the Memsie when finished in behind placings. Likely to be a bit more pressure on in this and he should get his chance to run on again last 200m.
Blue Diamond winner TAGALOA looked like he would benefit from the run when finished close up here fresh. Sure to be better from that outing and can measure up to these.
Going to take all of the wizardry of Willie Pike for SUPERSTORM to win from his barrier. Run here fresh was better than finishing position suggests. Sure to strip fitter and cannot leave out of place chances.
Even field of mares to contend with in this. Settled on LYRE who drove late to just miss here first-up from spell. Loves the Caulfield track and second-up she can win.
FELICIA should control this from the front. Only beaten by the smart Showmanship first-up at Moonee Valley. If she can steal a cheap sectional before the corner she will take catching.
MISSILE MANTRA had support at longer odds fresh but forget she went around as knocked down at the 400m and tailed off. Should sit midfield and peel to middle from the corner. Expect she will be in finish.
HUMMA HUMMA will benefit from first-up try. Looked the winner at 200m before fitness told late. If leaders go out too hard she will be the one to watch late.
