Form analyst, SCOTT MCDONELL, previews Saturday’s Caulfield meeting, with horse racing tips and analysis for all 10 races. Good luck, punters!
Track Condition: Good 4
Rail Position: True entire circuit
Liked the way SUKOOT chased home final stages when placed at Flemington last start. Drawn touch awkwardly but will be in the mix again.
POWER SCHEME looked like he would benefit from the run first-up when placed here. Gets out to his right distance range second-up and looks a major player.
SKIDDAW comes into this ready third-up. Placed at Geelong fresh then just did not finish race off well enough last start. Cannot leave out of chances.
NOT MINE did not finish the race off her first-up. Expect he will be better from that outing and record suggests he improves off fresh run.
ANITRA is overdue for another win this campaign. Broke maiden status first-up then has been in consistent form since and must respect.
YOSEMITE gets back into his right race. Bendigo maiden winner on the heavy first-up then has not been disgraced in better races than this. Will enjoy the run of the race.
YES BABY YES was only claimed last 200m in the G2 Edward Manifold last start. Back in a winnable race and would not leave her out of chances.
SCREAM DREAM looks a progressive filly. She won maiden in a canter on debut then backed that up with sound placing last start. Deserves chance in town.
OSAMU brings some solid form down from Sydney. Makes his own luck going forward from perfect barrier and is he gets his own luck in front will take catching.
TORBRECK led them up for long way at Flemington last start only being overran late by a couple of smart ones. Sits in first couple and another that will be hard to run down.
ENDANGER should have won at The Valley first-up when just arrived a fraction too late. Gets out to the 1400m and drawn to get the perfect run.
SALTPETER comes into this third-up from spell. Liked the way he chased home at The Valley last start and extra distance ideal.
Like the progression of ALBARADO this prep. This still not his grand final as think the Derby will be on his radar but expect him to be close to best and he will be steaming home.
Can see Craig Williams giving CELESTIAL SOL the perfect sit in behind the speed in this. He should get his chance soon after straightening and can win this.
HIT THE SHOT should have finished in the placings at Flemington last start when held-up final stages. Expect he will get his chance final stages and will take holding out.
CETSHWAYO finished the race off like an up and coming stayer at Flemington last start and beat similar field. No reason he cannot win again.
Was on SUCCEED INDEED at Flemington last start and did not mind the ay she got to the line when just out of placings. Gets out to the ideal distance range and can return to winners stall.
CHICA FUERTE only just missed at Flemington when claimed late. She makes her own luck sitting up in the first couple and will get her chance from the corner.
STARELLE ran up to win at Flemington last start but just found one filly a little too tough. May be back to her best form and that good enough for this.
SILHOUETTE comes into this ready third-up from spell. Not beaten all that far when making late ground the rails at Flemington and extra distance should suit.
Tip: SUCCEED INDEED
FITUESE was brave winning at Rosehill first-up as she was never on the track and still too good for them. She will be better from the run and may just be bit too good for these.
CALIFORNIA ZIMBOL looked like she would benefit from her first-up outing when just could not reel winner in. Should go forward and will look winner at some stage in straight.
PINYIN has found a purple patch of form winner her last couple and from inside gate here no reason she cannot make it three in a row.
HUMMA HUMMA was beaten less than a length here fresh before racing bit flat second-up. Ready to find best form third-up from spell and watch for her late.
FABERGINO started favourite in Group 1 company last start but prepared to forget run as never happy around the tight Valley circuit. Grey mare gets her chance to bounce back in this.
ALFA ORO jumped to the front and gave nothing else a chance fresh. Sure to bounce and run in front and if he gets a breather before the corner will take catching.
GRAFF races well fresh. Two of his three wins have been first-up and no in the Danny O’Brien stable he must be considered.
GARNER was beaten less than a length in Group 3 company this track first-up then no luck when always wide last start. Ready third-up and looks major player.
WINDSTORM seems to have found his hoofs in Melbourne since coming from the West. Won his last couple this track/distance and expect her will make it three in a row.
WILD PLANET was solid winning at Group 2 level two starts back then beaten less than 3 lengths in an Epsom Handicap last start. That form good for this and barrier draw ideal.
MORRISSY has been racing in consistent form around this circuit. Drawn to get an ideal run and expect him to be competitive again.
MORVADA looks close to a win after a couple of strong placings in Listed class. This looks a nice race for him.
Going to have something each way on FINCHE in the Caulfield Cup. Timing looks perfect third-up from spell and he comes into this off the right lead up race in the Turnbull. Will not want it too wet if the rain arrives but can handle slow.
VERRY ELLEEGANT will thrive if the rain comes. Expect she will be short favourite if the track is slow or heavy. Gutsy Turnbull win last start and she is unbeaten at 2400m.
ANTHONY VAN DYCK is an Epsom Derby winner and arguably one of the most credentialed imports we have seen in Australia. Hughie needs some luck from barrier but class will take him a long way.
WARNING was an eye catcher in the Turnbull. He is my early Melbourne Cup pick and would expect him to be making good late ground in this and cannot leave out of multiples.
MADAM ROUGE has had a luckless campaign in three starts this time in. Not beaten all that far in Group 1 company here two back then not disgraced at Flemington. Drawn ideally and she can finish the day on a winning note.
PERFECT JEWEL won here fresh then just been bit dour in recent starts. She may need some luck from her barrier but can figure in finish.
FELICIA was dominant here two starts back then only nabbed last couple of strides here last start. The query for her is the step out to 1400m.
PRETTY BRAZEN was enormous in Group 1 company here two starts back then forget last start when never got a clear run at Flemington. She can win this.
