Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, looks at today’s meetings and singles out his top three horse racing tips from Canberra &  Newcastle. Good luck, punters!

I think we need to follow the money. Last week when resuming in a Highway in town, connections put a lot on TEMOIN CHAUD and he had no luck sitting three and four deep the whole way before just simply tiring in the straight finishing 10th. So, today. He is fitter for that hard run. He draws well enough and he is down in grade. Plus, he is on his home track. Wins comfortably for mine. Get on.

Last year, when Team Hawkes produced a handsome son of Pierro on this day in this race, he won. His name was ROCK and he carried 56kg, was last in a field of 16 turning for home, yet sprouted wings over the final 400m to win. It was an astonishing performance. Soooo, what do we do with Rock this year? He returns to the scene, with 55.5kg in the same race. Go figure! Last year he won 2nd up and he is 2nd up here after a brilliant 5th at Randwick in a super-fast 1400m Gr 2 race. I think he is a special. Flashes home to win from THE CANDY MAN.

This is a good betting race. But, even though I tried hard – running the metrics over everything else – I just can’t see MUGATOO getting rolled here. Good draw, horse in brilliant form, on home track, great jock. It just all adds up. Only HERENGAWE got close in my reckoning so I’ll quinella them up. But seriously, Mugatoo just looks the superior stayer and his trainer Kris Lees, who has been trying for 20 years to win this race, finally has a massive chance to do so.
