With 139 winners for the 2018/19 season, LINDA MEECH was a convincing winner of the Victorian Jockeys’ Premiership. Racing writer, JUSTIN DEVINE, takes a look at Meech’s rides at Flemington this Saturday and finds her best chances.

With the 2018/19 Victorian jockeys’ premiership in the bag, Meech celebrated in style with a treble at Moonee Valley last Saturday. A win made more meritorious when you factor in time on the sidelines due to a broken collarbone. Meech put on a clinic, with all three winners at nice odds. Her ride on $15 chance INVERLOCH (below) was a fantastic ride and showed why Meech is one of the best.

The ultra-consistent Meech has hit top form in recent month as her statistics reveal. In June when coming back from injury, she rode seven winners and seven placings from 28 rides, with a 13% ROI and an impressive 50% place strike rate. With 18 winners and an ROI of over 60 %, punters who followed Meech were on very good terms with themselves and if early August figures are an indication (23% ROI) she is still a hoop to follow.

With a great book of rides at nice prices on Saturday at Flemington, Linda Meech is definitely a jockey to follow.

Flemington R1 – 7. Not a Single Cent @ $2.70

Closed strongly last start for second behind the airborne TAVIRUN and drops 6kgs this week. Prior to that was an impressive winner over the 2500 metres at Flemington, when he overcame some bad luck in the straight (below). Early money suggests a forward showing ($4 – $2.7) and Linda can start the day with a bang here.

Flemington R5 – 15. Gazzara @ $15

The New Zealand galloper is aiming for a hat trick of wins after wins at Cranbourne (below) and Moe. Trained by the Busuttin and Young stable, with whom Linda Meech has enjoyed a lot of success with 20 winners and a 57.5% ROI in the last year. Should get a good run in the race from gate 1 and finish strongly. Looks an Each Way special at nice odds.

Flemington R8 – Reykjavik @ $10

Meech combines with the Western Australian visitor REYKJAVIK again this weekend, having ridden him to victory last month with a 10/10 ride (below). REYKJAVIK will appreciate the 5kg weight drop from his last start third and should get a good steer this weekend with Linda aboard. If he can sit a little closer to the speed over the 1200 metres he can finish over the top of his rivals. Looks an Each Way special.

Flemington R9 – 9. Royal Ace @ $11

The Danny O’Brien trained galloper chased strongly for second last start and drops 2.5kgs this weekend. The Meech and O’Brien combination is an interesting one. While they don’t team up regularly, they are never far away when they do. From seven attempts in the last year, Meech has ridden two winners and had three placings for the stable, at an ROI of 64%. ROYAL ACE is worth sticking with this weekend in a competitive race.
