Placing a bet on a favourite – some punters can’t get enough of them, while others steer clear of them. Racing writer Justin Devine looks at some of the more fancied runners for this weekend’s horse racing and decides if he loves them 😍 or if he should leave ❎ them!
A great day’s racing awaits punters this Saturday with some really competitive racing coming up. KORDIA ran some great sectionals last start and looks ready to step up to 1300m at Randwick. WILMOT PASS was too good for his rivals at Flemington last start and a repeat of that run will see him get the money again. The McEvoy trained HYPERSONIC has impressed winning his first two runs in South Australia and looks capable of stepping up to Melbourne class at the Valley 😍 . KISS THE BRIDE has been racing well without winning and I’m happy to oppose him again this week, while HUMBOLT CURRENT looks under the odds to go back to back at Eagle Farm. GOODBYEFEDS is an 11 start maiden who will need every bit of the Wizard’s magic to win at Belmont. I can’t entertain him at a short price ❎ .
Good Luck Punters!
Randwick R3 – 7. Kordia @ $2.2 😍
KORDIA found the line strongly for fourth last time, running great sectionals in a race that suited the frontrunners. The start before he was ultra-impressive finishing strongly from the rear to win first up. He looks ready for a step up to 1300m and if the track is playing fairly, he is the best bet of the day. Yes please.
Moonee Valley R6 – 10. Wilmot Pass @ $2.5 😍
WILMOT PASS won well down the straight at Flemington last start, doing his best work late (below). Expect him to settle midfield this week and look to find a run at the top of the straight. With even luck in the straight he should be too good for his rivals. Jamie Kah retains the ride and has ridden him for two wins from two attempts. He ticks all the boxes.

Moonee Valley R9 – 19. Hypersonic @ $2.7 😍
HYPERSONIC is one of the most interesting runners of the day. He followed up an impressive debut win at Murray Bridge (below) with a two-length win at Morphettville. Connections have been very patient with HYPERSONIC and he gets his chance to repay their loyalty at Moonee Valley this week. Team McEvoy are flying at the moment and are experts at placing their horses. Olly takes the ride. I’m on!

Eagle Farm R2 – 7. Humbolt Current @ $2.2 ❎
HUMBOLT CURRENT broke a seven-race losing sequence to win at Eagle Farm on his Queensland debut and steps up in grade here. The field features all the usual suspects with luck in running sure to play a huge part in the result. HUMBOLT CURRENT is a tease and is hard to catch. He is mapped to sit up on the speed and may get caught without cover, while his main dangers will finish strongly. It’s hard to get enthused at the price and I will be betting around him.
Randwick R6 – 2. Kiss The Bride @ $2.1 ❎
KISS THE BRIDE has been racing consistently with two close up placings at his most recent runs both on heavy tracks. Has he missed his chance to win this prep? He will need to carry 58.5kgs and will once again encounter heavy ground. I’m taking him on.
Belmont R1 – 1. Goodbyefeds @ $2 ❎
GOODBYEFEDS has six minor placings from 11 starts and the market suggests he can break through for his maiden win this week. The 4yo will have the services of Western Australi’s leading jockey BUT has gone done as favourite four times previously. He ran on strongly first up over 1000m and steps up to 1200m, a distance where he was unplaced at his only try. I’m not rushing out to take the short price on an 11 start maiden even with the Wizard aboard. Pass.
