Horse racing tips – Group 1 Australian Guineas

Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, looks at every runner in Saturday’s  Group 1 $1m Australian Guineas with horse racing tips for the first four. Read on to see how he maps – he has included the potential for a damp track in his thoughts. Good luck!

1. JACQUINOT (11) 36x1159x11

T; Mick Price & Michael Kent / J: Damian Lane (57kg)

Superstar. Is he as good this trip though? That’s the question. Did get into a dog fight in open Gr 1 last start over 1400m winning on protest the CF Orr Stakes. Totally different cup of tea here but he races like he will run this trip right out and is 3rd up. Big danger.

2.ELLIPTICAL (2) 1x43227x1

T: Team Freedman / J: Blake Shinn (57kg)

This is a really good young horse. His record could easily be astounding. Beaten a nose in the Gr 1 Caulfield Guineas and narrowly 2nd also in the Gr 1 Champion Stakes. Resumed from a spell and claimed the Gr 3 CS Hayes over 1400m. Came home very hard. Loves this journey, is fit and very well placed.

3. OSIPENKO  (13) 12x73x51

T: Chris Waller / J;

4. MR MAESTRO (15) 54x11149x52

T: Andrew Forsman/ J: Ben Melham (57kg)

Has talent and on the quick back up from last weekend when a slashing 2nd coming from 10th on bend over 1800m in a Gr 2. Is capable of winning this on his day but will need to drop out from this gate and may fly home to finish about 5th.

5. VIRTUOUS CIRCLE (8) 91x132x8

T: Liam Howley / J: Blaike McDougall (57kg)

Lightly raced but has a stack of talent and has been placed a couple of times at Gr 2 level. Resumed with well beaten 8th last start and this may be a tad soon for him.

6. THE FORTUNE TELLER  (6) 152732×3

T: Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace / J: John Allen (57kg)

More than handy and last campaign ran with the big dogs in a few Group races. Resumed last start with close and solid 3rd in 1400m Gr 2 here. Is perfectly drawn and should settle about 5th with cover. Place show at odds.

7. BANK MAUR (17) 17x218x27

T: Richard Laming /J: Jye McNeil (57kg)

Average run when 2nd up last start and 7th should be overlooked. This bloke is gifted and can run home hard. Beaten a nose by Jacquinot two starts back. Horror draw though.

8. AMENABLE (1) 1x436x2

T:  Mick Price & Michael Kent /J: Damien Oliver (57kg)

Here’s the x-factor horse. Is 5 runs into a career and is progressive, getting better every start as was shown last start when flying home from a mile back over 1400m in the Gr 2 Autumn Stakes. Has drawn the fence but gets back so may be about 8th for home. Will need luck but if he gets it he can flash home. Chance.

9. ELKINGTON ROAD  (4) 1102×4

T: Michel Moroney / J: Jamie Mott (57kg)

Lightly raced but gifted 3YO. Was beaten half a length when resuming last start in the Gr 3 CS Hayes behind Elliptical over 1400m and was motoring late. Fitter now and should receive the run of the race. Has claims.

10. LINDERMANN (14) 16x2292x51

11. MURAMASA (16) 1725×9

T: Trent Busuttin & Nat Young/ J: Jamie Kah (57kg)

Stayer who is 2nd up here after 9th behind Elliptical when resuming over 1400m. Was doing best work late and trip here suits but may get too far back.

12. MAXIMILLUS (3) x41x00x453

T: Mick Price & Michael Kent / J: Ethan Brown (57kg)

Nice horse who looks to have a good future because as he matures he will get better and better. On speed when 3rd to Elliptical last start over 1400m. Trip here at this level is biggest hurdle.

13. HOLYMANZ  (5) 127×12

T: Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace / J; Mark Zahra (57kg)

Is smart and on a rapid improvement curve. Can run on pace and can run. this trip right out. Grade is tough but he seems capable of going with the big boys and making the improvement necessary. Beaten a lip by Elliptical last start and has drawn perfectly.

14. ATTRITION (7) 33×115

T: Mitch Freedman / J: Jamie Kah (57kg)

Won two low key races on the trot so deserved a shot at the  Gr 3 Hayes last start and ran on well when 5th to Elliptical. Place though at this level.

15. LEGARTO (9) 1×11114

T: Team Kelso/ J: Micky Dee (55kg)

Watch market moves very closely. Is the best 3YO filly in New Zealand by a long way and has won 5 of her 6 starts. Only defeat was last start when resuming over a mile. Is a Gr 1 winner and drawn well enough.

16. LACED UP HEELS  (12) 816112×74

T: Luke Fernie / J: Chris Parnham (55kg)

Good filly from Western Australia who runs home hard. Is 3rd up here but the grade will test her.

17. JAPANESE EMPEROR (8) 10×6

T: Michael Moroney /J: Dan Stackhouse (57kg)

Has talent but this grade is too tough at this stage of his career.
