Star jockey Blake Shinn has just accepted a six month contract to ride in Hong Kong. It is no surprise that one of the world’s hottest racing destinations has come knocking for the jockey who would currently “win on a rocking horse”. Racing writer, JUSTIN DEVINE, digs deeper into his he recent run of hot form.

Since returning from serious injury, Shinn has shown why he is regarded as one of Australia’s leading riders. With just under 1000 career winners at a Strike Rate of 16% Blake Shinn knows how to get one home. His recent statistics are much more impressive. Over the last 12 months, Shinn has ridden 85 winners at a SR of 21%, while that SR improves to an impressive 27% when assessing his last 100 rides. With 4 winners from his last 10 rides (40% SR) and a ROI 103% Blake has really hit top form and become the punters pal.

This weekend Shinn rides at Eagle Farm and has a terrific book of rides. Teaming up with some of Australia’s leading stables, he looks set for another big day as part of the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

Eagle Farm R5 – 14. Pohutukawa @ $6

The 3yo Godolphin owned filly will strip fitter after her first up run a fortnight ago, and has drawn well in gate 4. Won the Group 3 Kembla Grange Classic over 1600 metres earlier this year, and will once again appreciate the mile this week. Expect her to finish strongly.

The Shinn & Godolphin combination has enjoyed success in recent times with 5 winners at a ROI of 20%. The pair combined to win with MULTAJA at Doomben last Saturday (below) where Shinn produced a 10/10 ride.

Eagle Farm R6 – 1. Accession @ $4.40

The Waller trained 2yo was held up for a run at a crucial stage when heavily supported in the Sires produce last start, and should have won. The step up to the mile looks ideal and Shinn rides for the first time. With even luck in running, he is clearly the one to beat.

Shinn has ridden 5 winners (19% SR) from limited opportunities for the powerful Waller stable. At Eagle Farm they combine with PROMPT RESPONSE (R2), ACCESSION and HARIPOUR (R9). All three have strong claims.

Eagle Farm R7 – 16. Scarlet Dream @ $6.50

Chased home the star filly VERRY ELLEEGANT in the Group 1 Australian Oaks two starts back, before a solid return when midfield in The Roses last start. Will go back from the wide gate and hit the line hard. Will get the 2400 metres and be very hard to hold out.

The Mark Newnham & Blake Shinn combination is on fire, teaming up with the first two winners at Doomben last Saturday. There is every chance that SCARLET DREAM can continue their dream run.
