Wednesday Best Bets

James squire BM78

Canterbury race 1 (1550m) 12:10 pm

You’ve just got to love a horse who is 3rd up after two solid runs. That one here is the topweight HOLLYWOOD HERO. And being drawn wide on a wet track may help. Just behind the placegetters at past two runs in better grade. Looks a nice each way bet.

Victory Steeplechase

Warrnambool race 4 (3450m) 12:55 pm

I’m on GUNALUVA in this because he’s won on the flat done well over hurdles and has won a chase in his life too. Past two runs have been this campaign and he looks to peak here at 3rd start back. Beaten a nose in a hurdle with 69.5kg last start. Big show.

Lots of money coming in for the improving restricted grade runner MIDTOWN BOSS but I’m not on him. I’ve gone for the class runner in TUVALU. Big weight yes and trip is a tad short but he loves this track winning 3 from 3 and he has raced against better rivals than this and held his own. I’ll quinella them.

Kia Ora BM 72

Canterbury race 6 (1100m) 3:30 pm

Lightly-raced mare WAIKIKI drew deep, went back from the start, last for home yet rocketed home late over 1200m this grade when 5th at Gosford. Shorter trip is a worry but the wet track will bring her into it as I see her swinging wide and finding the better ground.

Lot to like about PHYSICAL GRAFFITI in this. And that’s despite drawing off the track which, in these conditions, could well be advantageous. The inside ground by this hour will be very slow. Best to be wide and being 3rd up with Jay Mac to ride he rates a strong show. Looked at home in the mud last start when winning Kembla maiden. Can go on with it.
